Mindfield, I had a call like that once. Not so scary, though.
A woman called me, and asked for me by my baby name. When I said it was me, she began launching into Punjabi, speaking the dialect of the village my family came from. She also told me she was calling from NY.
Now I have a Neelam Massi (mom’s sister) in NY who speaks this dialect, so I assumed it was her! I mean, baby name, calling the right office, speaking my language.
We’re conversing, I’m trying to follow along (the dialect is very deep) until she says she doesn’t like the Gucci shoes I bought her, and can I get her a different pair.
In retrospect I should have told her to send them back to me, and I’d get her a new pair.
pugs, I KNOW Mom’s in charge. Bear just says he is!
Just set up the mud-arena on the same beach where **Haze **is reading her books…
…I’ll be in mah hammock
(well, I couldn’t disappoint you, now could I?)
Cat for sale. Cheap. Licks plastic bags incessantly.
Almost time to run off to work. No fun.
I have one that eats string, yarn, cords, tassles, etc. And licks the double-sided sticky tape stuff that you’re supposed to put on your furniture to keep kitty from scratching the furniture. It does keep her from scratching, but only because she’s too busy licking it to think of scratching the couch.
Incidentally, here’s the article about the show, and at the bottom is a slide show. I’m #36. The artiste I snarked about is #3. Unless they change it again - there were only 18 pics this morning.
well, I’m back after having my thyroid out on Tuesday. I had to stay a day longer than anticipated. And now I have no voice, and have been told by the surgeon that I can’t talk for 3-4 weeks at least, and that it may take months. My thyroid was huge, and rock-hard. She said it was like someone had opened my throat and poured concrete in. She had to chip it off my right vocal cord and it’s not clear how much damage there has been. She said while she was working the word spread through the hospital that she had such a nasty case and people came in to watch. THis is not the kind of over-achiever I need to be.
Anyway, at least I made it through, so I can count my blessings. No singing in church for a while, though.
StG
StGermain, glad you’re back and best wishes for the speedy return of your voice.
FCM, wow, that’s, uh, really something for #3. People actually bought her paintings? People who weren’t related? On the other hand, your stuff lookes quite lovely.
**Jah ** - I got lucky. When the photographer came by, it just happened that 2 of my nicer pieces were right on the top shelf. You can almost see some of the kitties, too.
And yeah, the artiste was telling people how she got commissions of $7500 to do murals. No accounting for taste, I guess… But I don’t think she sold anything at this show.
**StG ** - hope you recover quickly and completely. Your story reminded me of when my mother had an abdominal tumor removed (circa 1968) - whatever it was they took out of her was so unusual, it was written up in some medical journal. For some reason, Mom didn’t ask for a copy of the article…
Eeep…closed a tab by mistake and lost post.
Updated sig to reflect current struggle.
Hugs to TPlay and TWife.
Welcome back St. G.
What? No one wants LiLi’s cat?
Cool pic, FCM.
Off to finish dinner. Back later with reconstructed post and pronouns.

Home, time for beer. Work went OK, apart from having no morning cashier. I think he eas supposed to help with the truck, so I tihink tomorrow will suck.

Mork, glad that wasn’t your dad.
Glad you made it through, StGermain. I’ve been there with theobject of attention thing: “I am not an animal, I am a MMPer!”
FCM, good pic.
My appendages are cramping, how’d it go, swampy?
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be in my bunk.
We just had a yummy dinner of corned beef and cabbage, cornbread, and baked not-fried NOT wedgies like the other day. Mr Rebo asked for them again. I guess he liked them!
StG - please get well soon! I’m glad you got away from the voyeurs and can get well in peace and quiet…
Cool article, FCM. The artiste looks like a [del]biatch[/del] self-absorbed [del]twat[/del] asshat.
Swampbear! You get your butt in here, young man! Where the hell have you been? Don’t you know that people have been worrying about you all day??? You need to tell us how that interview went, pronto!
If it’s Mama Tigs turn, she can have it. But I don’t mind wrasslin’ her just for entertainment’s sake. Just let me know, mmkay?
For some reason, this cracks me up.
For some reason??? OMG! That is the funniest thing EVAH!!! I have tears from laughing.
I laughed too. Lots. Talk about original!
Semi-napped. Had some chocolate and crackers and am enjoying a well-earned beerverage. (Firefox spellcheck says that’s not a word!)
Your dinner sounds yummy, Rebo. Were there any leftovers?
Forgot Mork the first time around. Whew! What an odd coincidence. Meeks’s too.
Paging da Bear! How was the interview?
I have some unique eye thing that fascinated an optometrist at the OSU eye clinic I went to when I was in grad school. He pulled in a whole class of optometry students in to take a look. At least he asked me if it was OK before inviting them to look.
I’m going to be so glad when this week is over. I think. Work-related stuff was less stressful today, but we learned a colleague died in a car wreck last night. Didn’t work with him closely any more, but he was someone that a lot of people knew and liked, so there were a lot of stunned people wandering around today. I was close to tears at a couple of points in the day and I’ve spent the day absorbing the news.
Hope everyone’s feeling all cheerful and healthy and ready for the weekend. Unless, of course, they’re already enjoying the weekend ( ::looks meaningfully toward Tel Aviv:: ).
Think I’ll try to crawl into bed, since I didn’t sleep much last night.
GT
(since bear didn’t…)
All those in favor of an extremely eager Anaamika taking Monday’s MMP?
YEA!
all opposed?
::crickets::
In other news - I went to and stayed for the whole rehearsal tonight. I’m pooped!
eta: As for the Tuxedo NY Ren Faire - if you wait til September, when the humididity is down, I’ll maybe join youse guys.
et(also)a: appropriate noises and reactions all around.
TP–I’m sorry you’re having a hard time right now. Melt down if you need to, take the meds, and keep talking. How is Tokyo Wife?
** MamaTigs**–stories like that do a body good.
**Haze **–you are too cute! I think that prof should just GIVE you an A for cuteness. Tell him I said so.
I am home from my first day at my new job. I think I will like it.
BUT.
My fever is back (and how–101 and rising). I have at least lost some of voice, so there is a symptom besides the fever at least. I’ve been on antibiotics for 2 days now. This has gone beyond annoying to anxiety-producing. I will cal the doc tomorrow and ask for bloodwork.
Long day, ups and downs.
Had a driver leave a 4 yr old alone in a bus for 90 minutes today.
Didn’t really have to work, spent the morning in a Leadership Team meeting, until I was called Re: above.
Then - you all will remember the fatal car accident we had here in February - 5 kids killed in one accident in February? Later, in March and April, the same high school faced two suicides. This morning, this happened, and three more kids from our schools are`dead.
After our meeting, we gathered at one of our team’s homes - she’s one of my better friends here - it was on the face, a celebratory day, but the mood was quite subdued - several principals and asst. principals knew the kids and the mom.
Getting drunk now. Off tomorrow.
UGH, it’s stinking hot here! The afternoon high was 104, and at 8PM, it’s down to 96. It was declared a no-cook night, so on the way home, we stop off at Costco for a pizza and spinach salad.
On the way to the checkout, what do I spot? Coke. Not just any Coke, though. Mexican Coke, made with actual sugar - no high-fructose corn crap!
Pizza’s been et, and the magical, mythical Mexican Coke is chilling in the fridge.
You’re welcome to next week’s MMP, Meeks; I’ve been working so hard this week that I don’t feel up to preparing one, anyway. I need to properly index and photograph my yarn stash first, too, and I don’t have the energy for that right now. Of course, today I haven’t had the energy for anything except sitting with my feet up watching TV, since I was up so late finishing that stupid congressional drivel I literally went to bed as Papa Tigs was getting up. Mind you, he gets up insanely early, but that was still at least four hours later than I wanted to stay up under the best of circumstances. And that stuff definitely wasn’t the best of circumstances.
So I’ve done absolutely nothing today except watch some TV and knit. And now I’m going to give up and go to bed. Night night, everyone!
