Love is a warm spot on the carpet where the dog has been waiting right outside your door.
Yesterday I was dog-sitting for a friend who was going to be out of the house most of the day. The dog is about 1 year old, terrier mix, rescue with unknown history other than found on the streets of South Florida. He took to my friend right away, but doesn’t like most people. The first several times we met, he growled and jumped at me, before begrudgingly letting me in the house. Even then, he would bring me a toy to play, so we knew there was a friendly streak in there.
A few days of me showing up with a treat in hand was all it took to win him over. He still growls at other people if they just walk by when we’re in the car, but he’s completely accepted me.
So back to yesterday. I went to their place and did our morning run, then brought him over to my house. I closed the door to the bedroom while I took a shower, because he likes to chew on things still and I wasn’t sure I had put everything out of reach. When I finished, I came out to find him lying on the floor right in front of the door. And the spot on the carpet was noticeably warm to the touch. He was just waiting for me, like a good little puppy.
Lots of annoyances in my life yesterday, dealing with work and Dad stuff..but I’m choosing to focus on this display of love.
Just thought I’d share!
