An instant messaging ettiquette question.

A lot of my IM conversations with girls end something like this;

“Bye!”
“Bye!”
“xxxx”

With the xxxx being their’s. Now, I feel kinda weird about letting that xxxx go un-answered, but I think it would be kinda odd for me to reply in kind. Should that just be the end of the conversation, or am I being rude by not acknowledging kisses?

Yes, this is a boring and pointless question.

hugs and kisses

put ooooo’s

The correct response is…XXX’s and OOO’s to U 2 snookums.

What do oooo’s mean?

Hugs.

If your IM client supports it (MSN does) send an emoticon consisting of a single red rose.

I’m so glad I only IM at work.

I hate it when people “ping” me. You can see I’m online, no need to say hi or ask me about my weekend…just ask me the question already!

I end all of my IM sessions with “You’ll never take me alive Chris Hansen!”

YMMV.

No, the correct response is “HA HA! I had my phone on my ass when you sent that!”

The correct response is:

0
#=========D - - -
0

That’s pretty lame. You got the wrong part of your anatomy. jjimm has the right idea.

If it makes you uncomfy because it’s a little more intimate than you want, make a little joke out of it. I would use something like - omg! cooties! run!; grrr, and all this time I blamed my roommate for leaving fingerprints on my screen, but it was YOU and your lips! Stop sending me your ex’s, I’m getting a complex!; overflowing in chromosones?; Ouch! I think you broke my nose!

But if you’d like to respond in kind, send back an O or X of your own.

IMO you can’t be expected to reply to anything after you’ve said “bye”. I wouldn’t worry about it.

“Buy me dinner first.”

I seem to have trouble signing off with some people, because they don’t stop SAYING things. The conversation will be like:

they>good night

me>'night

they>be well

me>and you also

they>bye

me>bye

they>

me>

I keep waiting to make sure they are done before I sign off.

In the case of xxxxxxx’s I don’t want to return, I’d probably just reply, “:)” but it would also be ok to just sign off. For in the middle of conversations, I have a few friends that might get a little more suggestive than I’m comfortable with, so I just politely ignore whatever it is that they’ve said, and change the subject. It seems to work well.

Dammit! I was all set to text you a reply to this, but I don’t have your cell number…

“Bye!”
“Bye!”
“xxxx”
“e-i-e-i-o”

It depends on the girl and the Flirty Factor of the relationship. Nothing wrong with a little teasing about it though.
