An interesting survey, of sorts... I hope....

I am a big fan of Science, Knowledge, and all that incompasses.

I am also a fan of sex, sexual experimentation, and all that incompasses.

The Grandmaster of Science Fiction has said ex cathedra many times that he believed geniuses and folks of that calibre would make their own rules when it came to the matter of sex and interpersonal relations.

As the SDMB is a self proclaimed group of “Smarter-than-the-average-bear” types, I have a question…

How many of us are in “non-traditional” relationships?

example: My wife and I are in an open marriage, with the caveat that we do not create heavy-duty emotional bonds with others.

So how many of us are in trio’s, and open marriages, and the like?

You of course, are free to not answer.

Also, if you can relate a friend of similar mental calibre, feel free to do so.

My current situation is pretty “normal”. Just two of us, married (we did live together first), one male, one female, no extra-marital activities. This works for us.

In my previous marriage, we flirted with an open marriage for a couple of years. Did some threesomes (both MFM and FMF), a couple of group parties, and some swapping. That worked for us then. As it turned out, there were problems bwtween us (nothing to do with the sex) that caused us to go our separate ways.

So I guess I (we) did and do make our own rules. Sometimes those happened to be the same as the “norm”, sometimes not. I don’t know if that counts toward smarter-than-average.
