An MMP about my dad

I have not read The Hunger Games, nor do I have an overwhelming desire to see the movie, but in last night’s dream, I was Katniss’ side kick

Good morning, all. Have had breakfast and caffeine and am planning to head out to the garden as it’s gorgeous out right now, but is supposed to rain later in the day.

Hugs.

GT

I still haven’t ventured out. It’s 46° out there and I’m not mucking about in wet dirt until it hits 60°. There’s a small pile of mending to be done, so I suppose I could pull out my sewing machine. And I could run a load of towels, too. Maybe I will…

The social anxiety is strong in this one today. Le sigh.

Happy Palm Sunday to all, and happy April Fool’s day - I see it is acknowledged on SDMB.

Sorry about the kitty, Pearl; hopefully you can rescue another one in the future. Good news on the apartment, ShinyKat. Hugs to all who need or even just want them.

I’m beginning to wonder if 2gig was the one who purchased that lottery ticket at the 7-11 in Baltimore County! Poor guy if it was him, although hey yeah, he can send me a ticket to come back east for the doper party he promised. Seriously, though, I wonder if the person is going to come forward, since in MD you can remain anonymous.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday; it’s beautiful weather here right now, but is supposed to get very windy later today. It will be colder in the early part of the week and warm up some later. I can deal with temps in the 70s, I think - just not over 80 though, not yet!

Knowing where **Tugig **works and lives, I’d be really surprised if he bought the winning ticket. Plus he has my phone number, and if he won, I just know he’d have called me first because after only one lunch, we’re BFFs and stuff. Or not…

It’s finally warming up and getting a wee bit sunny - I’m headed out to get my hands dirty…

So, I donated blood yesterday. I really do try to get in every eight weeks, but there’s always something - a cold, a migraine that made me take aspirin, a bout of 'fuck ‘em all!’. Now I’ve got a new obstacle - baby phlebotomists.

Good Og, I don’t like needle sticks, but I’m used to them. This was 20 minutes of ow-ow-ow-owie-ow. The low flow alarm went off, it took me three times as long to donate as it usually does, and when it was finally over, it turned out that instead of filling the vials at the beginning, they’re now doing it at the end of the process. So, they had to use my other arm for that.

At first I agreed that I must have been dehydrated, even though I rarely am. Two hours after the donation, I knew differently from the dazzling bruises that are coming up on BOTH arms. And the needle site on my left arm - where the donation was taken - is mega sore. Yup, the two different phlebotomists that worked on me managed to poke all the way through my vein, and they were using the biggest needle I’ve ever seen on a blood donation. It was practically a trochar.

I was going to console myself by going to the Red Cross site and looking up how many pints I’ve donated. I should be coming up on one gallon. Except, the place to log in and check has disappeared. Grrrr!

So yeah, nothing like opening the MMP on the last day of spring break to realize it’s been the kind of spring break where I almost entirely avoided the internet.

Bought a car yesterday! the seven years newer version of the exact same car I had already. Boy did Nissan ever tweak this thing up in seven years.

Back to work tomorrow. Gym now followed by a brief visit to the pub.

Adios.

We had a great time with our friends last night, and I’ve got a low grade headache to prove how much fun I had. We were drinking a stronger than usual proof of rum last night, I hadn’t eaten much, and I felt it. As soon as I felt it, I stopped drinking alcohol, but foolishly did not drink any water.

Still, it was fun and I’m glad we went.

I’ll catch up on some chores today and might even get a small nap in.

In just under 90 minutes, I planted 4 ivies, transplanted 7 hosta, 3 black-eyed susans, and 4 purple coneflowers, plus 2 other things that I don’t know what they are, but they grow like weeds… I’ve got the sprinkler running on the hosta and in about half an hour, I’ll move it to the front garden where I put the coneflowers and susies. I pulled some weeds, but there are so many more… Oh, and I planted 2 canna bulbs. There were supposed to be 3 in the package, but there weren’t, so I’m about to go to their website and lodge a complaint. grrrrrrrrrr

I’m all sweaty and grubby, so a shower will follow shortly. Once I rehydrate. And rest. It’s only mid-50s here and I’m sweaty like crazy! Guess I was working hard, huh?

And now, off to complain to Van Syverden about their bulb packing.

Oh my! Netflix and the bulb company are both on MOOOOOOM’s list! Woe betide those on the list!:eek::eek::smiley:

Today we deheathenated, had N.O.L. and did a buncha yahd irk over at OYKW’s place. His yahd is now all purty and neat. Mine however, looks like the neighborhood white trash lives here. Know what though? I’s tahrd so I don’t care right now. So There! :stuck_out_tongue: However, da cave yahd will be purtified this week even if it takes a couple of evenin’s after irk to do so.

Anywho, I’s all showered and clean and relaxatin’ now.

That is all.

The left-click button on the mouse finally gave up the ghost, so I got a new wireless keyboard mouse combo. Like my new brake rotors I am now wondering why I put up with them being so crappy for so long. Ah, tolerance.

Last night of Shiva. What a week. It’s wonderful to see everyone and the support is amazing, but it’s been exhausting.

{{{Soapy}}} I’m glad y’all have had such good support. You still have it here if you need more support.

Dang I’s tahrd! I feel like I could go beddy bye right now except I’d be wide awake by midnight. However when beddy bye time does get here I expect to zonk out promptly.

Played in the garden for about 3 hours and am now all showered and considering a walk.

Dinner, too, I suppose. And need to make sure I have fixings for lunch tomorrow.

Hugs.

I love Sunday’s. Took an amazing nap this afternoon with the ceiling fan going full blast it was a nice breeze and I was dreaming of beaches and palm trees. Ahhhhhh

We have had a really good weekend. Not lottery win but we went to the casino down south last night and saw Larry the cable Guy which was mr ems birthday present. We had fun. A good steak dinner. Good entertainment and did a little gambling and came out about $50 ahead.

When we came back I did the laundry from yesterday and I have a bunch of veggies roasting to go with the steaks mr ems is going to grill for dinner.

Time to put the clean sheets back on the bed and eat steak!

{{soapy & family}}

We went to a steak house for supper, and now we’re home. I’m going to knit. Hugs and smoochies all around!!

MWAH!!

I never did get much done in the way of chores today. I couldn’t shake the headache, so at about noon I told Mr. Taters I was going to lie down for a short nap. Yeah…short. I woke up at about 3:20 in the afternoon. I guess I needed it.

I’m doing my final load of laundry and have Death Chicken in the oven. I changed up the prep just slightly by browning the bacon a tad before putting it in the bottom of the dish. I don’t have a metal pan that’s the right size for this recipe and usually use a glass or ceramic dish. Hubby was complaining that the bacon just didn’t seem cooked enough when I put in the bottom of the dish raw during prep. We’ll see how it turns out. I may just have to break down and buy a 13X9 metal baking dish.

Actually, I do have one, but it’s one of those double layer insulated type. I use it to make brownies. However, due to it’s construction, I didn’t think I’d get the effect Mr. Taters wanted.

I can’t believe I have to go to work tomorrow. Three people in other states crushed my dreams of a life of ease. I think that was very rude of them.

Dinner out with friends. Very pleasant. But the weather is making me achy and tomorrow morning is going to be a struggle. So I am going to crash early. Have a good night, y’all, and I’ll see you in the next MMP.

Three lovely things today:

  • the iris I planted has opened a new blossom. The roses have four or five buds about to open.

  • one of my students has an outdoor cat. The cat had kittens on Friday and were discovered this morning about an hour before I got there. The little guys were freezing. I got to help get them warm and fed, and taught the student and mother how to take care of them. Seven baby kittens! By the time I was done, they’d gone from half-frozen, silent, and still to warm and meeping with sharp complaints at the service.

  • on my way home, I saw three hot air balloons. Ah. Some day . . .
