Hey, I wrote the OP while I was eating. And in a room where the actual guy who was eaten used to work occasionally! Maybe even in a chair he sat in, or the cubicle he was given.
I haven’t really internalized the idea that that guy that showed me how to use that analyzer ate his own penis and was butchered and eaten like a cow. Most of the body that walked around the lab with me has passed through another person’s digestive system. The person who sat across from me at the lunch table became several lunches himself.
It’s WAY too strange for me to emotionally accept.
Revtim, I had trouble when co-worker died alone and wasn’t found for several days. But, this is SO FAR beyond anything that reality prepared you for. Good Luck.
And Gorgon? Consumption?? ewwwwwww (but really really funny)
This was in the news over here for ages…you were hardly able to eat any meal at all if you had the TV on.
AFAIK, they are arguing that once you state you want to be eaten you are mentally ill and hence no more able to give consent to anything.
Plus, I seem to recall (but I can’t find a cite) that they are not quite sure whether the victim did not retract his will to die at some time during the procedure.
Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world - where none suffered, where everyone would be happy? It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. The perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from.
I thought things were bad when I learned that the guy on the other side of the block my parents live on killed his girlfriend, dismembered her, and kept her head in his refrigerator. But he didn’t (AFAIK) consume her. This is far worse – it implies an objectification og human beings that is truly appalling.
And the worst part is that this happened to/by someone you know, which makes you suspect that such activity is by no means uncommon in the world.
I remember hearing about this stuff a little while ago, actually. I don’t think it’s particularly new news.
It’s still bizarre. And sick. But as long as it was consentual, I don’t have a moral problem with it.
But remember: Cannibalism is only bizarre to us through historical accident. It is a cultural quirk that we don’t routinely consume our enemies and/or revered dead.
