An urgent call for Swedish-speakers who will do translation for "the cash"

A friend of mine is in a terrible bind. Here it is in his words:

“I’m currently writi . . . . . .trying to write my BA thesis in Anthropology on a site I excavated over the summer in Sweden. I have laid before me several of the excavation reports just brimming with the data I need to interpret for my paper. Problem 1: It’s in Swedish. Problem 2: I don’t speak Swedish. Problem 3: FUCK, I don’t speak Swedish! I have 4 reports ranging between 50 and 200 pages, with lots of illustrations, that need to be translated . . . .SOON.”

The translation doesn’t have to be completely perfect, just fast. I’m told payment will be involved. Besides, it’s for the good of academia!

You can contact him at: irandall at uchicago dot edu. His name is Ian. He can tell you more details as well as send you the reports.

(bump to make sure people see it because it won’t get much in the way of direct replies to the thread)

One of the rules of the SDMB is that homework help is not to be sought nor given. I believe you haven’t received any replies because query qualifies as “homework help.” Sorry. :frowning:

Adam

I wouldn’t count that as homework help. He is looking to procure professional ( or not :)) translation services. Now igf he was asking " Someone translate this page of my Swedish 101 project I have to turn in tomorrow" it might be considered helping.

Wish I knew moreSwedish speakers.

Agent Foxtrot, the types of requests that are normally a problem are those that pretty much request that someone else due their homework for them. These seems perfectly fine. This isn’t a request for someone to analyze the data and apply it to the project or anything like that, simply to put it into a form which the person doing the project is able to use.

Yes. Sorry if there was any confusion. My friend only needs the translation so that he can properly interpret the mounds of data within and then use that data to write his thesis.

^^bumpity-bump

Try posting this request at the ABBA SITE boards. Lots of Swedish speakers on ABBA Boards.

My boyfriend knows some educated Swedes who need money. I’ll inquire.

I have a Swedish friend. I’ll send her the link to this thread.

Hooray for promising leads! Thanks all. Anybody else this thread may apply to, keep the responses comin’.

^^

BornOfStardust: A friend of mine has tried to contact your pal but not heard anything from them.

If they still need the translation done, my friend’s email address is giteki (at) gmail (dot) com

Yikes, I haven’t checked this thread in a few days. Thank you Kal!!! As far as I know my friend still needs the translation; I haven’t heard otherwise. I just sent him an email asking if he’s heard from your friend. Hope this works out.
