Anaamika?

MsWhatsIt and Ferret Herder are two others that I think have left for similar reasons and I feel the board is poorer for it. And I don’t know if it’s so much the regulars who are the problem per se, as it is the seemingly relentless influx of pissed off newbies that are Red Pill darlings. You almost can’t deal with them fast enough before another bunch crop up extolling the virtues of being an MRA. It’s very disheartening.

Oh, no, its some of the regulars.

I must be in the wrong threads then, or bailing too early. Which is what I do when the discussion turns to such harmful nonsense.

That’s very saddening.

Ah, that’s too bad. She was a good egg and a good poster and we get too few of those these days as this medium slowly goes the way of the dinosaurs.

But she’s not the first to get aggravated and fed up with message board nonsense and she won’t be the last. Hope she is enjoying herself wherever she is wandering on the internets :). Life is too short to indulge in unnecessary aggravation.

Please, do tell the woman how she doesn’t *really *know what she wants, only thinks she does. B/c we don’t get that message drilled into our heads nearly enough.

Missed by lurker me too. I always value your opinion Anaamika, I just don’t post much.

I know it’s why I visit much less than I used to. There are a LOT of women who have given up on this place for similar reasons. It’s just hard to notice when people leave quietly.

Most definitely.

 It was a comment on the addictive nature of the SDMB, nothing else.

Yeah, don’t let the door hit you on the way out. If you want to leave; leave. And thats true for everybody, no one is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to participate… If you find threads offensive; don’t participate in them. If you don’t like the way this place is; don’t click on it.

Obviously, you are one of those who think this place would be just fine with fewer and fewer female voices. You don’t value the diversity of thought and opinion and would rather this be a place where only those that can stand the heat are tolerated. If that means we have fewer and fewer women’s voices, fewer voices of people of faith or color, fewer conservative voices - that’s ok with you. I don’t think that’s ok with everyone here.

But irregardless, if this drove Anaamika away, we did NOT serve her well.

I look forward to an opportunity of contributing to a thread wherein your extended absence from the board is noted.

Way to make Dangerosa’s point dude.

Most of us aren’t creepy MRA jerks. Most threads aren’t about creepy MRA jerkish topics. Heck, most threads don’t even have any of the creepy MRA jerks in them. If you want to avoid the creepy MRA jerks, I can understand that entirely: I want to avoid them, too. But you can do that while still remaining active on the remaining 99% of the board.

It isn’t just the MRA dudes. And even those guys will show up to spout their nonsense in threads that are perfectly enjoyable until they show up.

What’s an MRA?

Men’s rights activist.

I like Anaamika a lot too and her absence is a loss to this board.

I’m not a woman, but I totally agree with her. Interacting on these boards can get wearying and mentally exhausting and disheartening. Our purpose is to fight ignorance, but we seem to fight the same ignorance over and over every day, and often with the same ignorant people.

I’ve occasionally taken time outs just for my own mental health.

And for the “can’t stand the heat” crowd, that’s the attitude that makes Twitter and any comment section anywhere on the internet, and, indeed society in general toxic for women and minorities.

Wow, you can read minds. <sarcasm>Quit your day job, you’ll make millions </Sarcasm>.

I want there to be women voices. Men’s voices. Transvestites voices. Every possible voice and opinion there is. But, I understand that means that I will be necessarily exposed to opinions I don’t like, and have views put forth which are abhorrent to me. I accept that as a cost of a place like this.

If you want “diversity of thought” then you are going to have to “stand the heat”. If you want the mods to police “misogynistic assholes”, then you ain’t gonna get a forum with diversity of thought. Stick to IMHO forum.

Doubt you’ll get your wish, I don’t think I have made a sufficient impression for anyone to really care one way or the other.

Ha!Yes, because women are such fragile creatures, if they get exposed to some slightly lively debate they’ll crack the poor dears. Quick just agree with everything they say and everything will be all right.

Way to infantilise half of humanity.

I agree with AK84.

It’s not as if MRA are the dominant voices on this MB. Very much the opposite. So someone who can’t deal with MRA here would have to be one of these delicate flower types, who can’t deal with any sort of dissenting opinion even if they have the majority opinion behind them.

Such a person is probably not cut out for a board like this one.

ETA: which is not to say there’s anything wrong with being a delicate flower type or not liking this board. My point is just that delicate flower types not liking this board is not a flaw in the board; it’s part of its nature.
