Ok, I’m not finding this referred to in any of my grammar books, so I must ask for clarification from the horses’ mouths.
SOMEONE told me that in Flanders that U is used more INformally, while jij, jullie are the FORMAL forms, exactly the opposite of Netherlands nederlands. Bullshit, or not? This is causing me some anxiety, wondering how many Flemish people have thought I’m an ass. This man, although American seems to know Dutch pretty well- he picked it up in the Hague but now deals with the Belgians a lot, but this sounds insane to me.
