If you do whatever feels good, you may find yourself feeling very bad, if you get my drift. I’m praying for you, friend.
“The greatest glory of the American Revolution was this: It connected in one indissoluble bond, the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.”
Why in the WORLD are you nice people all wasting time on this? Is there absolutely nothing else to discuss in GD with more worthy opponents? Cannot someone who wishes to seriously discuss anal sex go and start a serious discussion thread, and leave off allowing the bars on the collective Straight Dope cage to be rattled? [here he comes with the stick again…]
I can’t tell you how relieved I am to find that the lower-case “captain america” being referenced above is not our own upper-case Captain America.
DK, are you interested in a debate or not? Are you going to even attempt to refute the arugments or answer the questions presented? Or are we all expected to stand in awe of your monolithic OP and marvel its pure genius?
Of course he’s not. He’s witnessing. (Incoherently, but that tends to go with that territory.)
The wisdom of devoting a forum to both serious debate and witnessing at the same time is an admistrative matter for…well, debate. Personally, I found it the only bit of the SDMB’s organization scheme that makes me shake my head.
I don’t think he is intending to witness. If he is, he is doing an awful, awful job of it. Has anyone been inspired to give themselves over to Christ by DK’s OP or other posts? Or to put it more broadly, could anyone even imagine being inspired to become a Christian by his posts? He is judging and accusing, not loving, IMH(and non-Chistian)O.
Well, water seeks its own level–witnessing likewise. Intelligent and honest christians will witness at a certain level; bumbling cret…[sub]wait, wait, not the Pit, not the Pit…[/sub]…er…other types will witness at a different level.
Now there’s a debate. Or it would be, if DK had 1) bothered to actually mention who this tidbit of fallacious opinion was from, and 2) attempted to indicate in any way what the heck it has to do with the discussion at hand.
He (or she?) is not even a very good troll; this has been quite an entertaining thread, actually.
Anyhoo, I’ll now hijack this thread with what is intended as a serious question (and one which is probably dealt with in the depths of one of the many ATGG threads):
Ignoring for a moment the moral/religious dimensions and also issues of disease propagation (which are never exclusive to anal sex), what are the risks and long-term physical effects of repeated anal sex? Loosening of the muscles of the sphincter and lower intestinal tract? Increased likelihood of hemerrhoids (sp?)? Potential tearing of the intestinal lining? Also: any risks associated with fecal matter getting into the urethral opening?
This is the sort of stuff that never seems to gets discussed in these debates.

Keyboards? You kids have it too easy today. Why back in my time we used typewriters. Your hear me? Typewriters up the ass.

This is one of those questions asked simply because neither a yes or no answer is satisfactory, a bit like:
“hey have you quit beating your wife yet”
-if you answer no, then you’re(obviously) saying that you do beat your wife.
-if you answer yes, then you’re admitting that you have done so in the past.
The UCLA crowd (me included) took great glee in heckling Brother Jed whenever he launched into one of his sidewalk sermons. Jed would start talking about perversity, and one of the onlookers would walk up right next to him for all to see and eat a hot dog really suggestively. Jed would say, “I have just one word for oral sex! Oral sex --”, and I’d interrupt him by barking, “That’s two words!”
It was all great fun … but it was really disquieting, after Jed was done, to see one or two people hanging around Jed and talking to him seriously. These hangers-on apparently agreed with Jed. <shudder>
This was, indeed, covered in AtGG (I don’t remember which one, though), and the answer was no - there haven’t been a lot of studies done, but from what was, there were no long-term effects found, even in those who, shall we say, abused the privilege.
Sage advice, and advice I intend to take should I ever find myself inclined to participate in such things. Despite what may appear to be a more than clinical interest in the subject, my current views remain unchanged, and I continue to consider the idea of anal sex…[sub]what’s the technical term? Ah yes…[/sub] icky.
Chacun a son gout, as they say in France (and look where it’s gotten them…).
While we’re on the unnatural parts of things, some of you might want to check out this thread; [url=http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=69493] in which Kamandi describes the oral rape of a stuffed seal by a cat! It’s about halfway down the page and quite funny.
From the statement in the OP that anal sex is condemned by the Bible, I assume DK considers it to be sinful. I agree that anal sex, in any case, is a sinful act but that alone does not make it unnatural. In Galatians 5:19 Saint Paul writes “What human nature does it quite plain. It shows itself in immoral, filthy, and indecent actions” (from Today’s English Version). Paul also writes in Phillipians 3:14-15 “So I run straight toward the goal in order to win the prize, which is God’s call through Christ Jesus to the life above. And all who are spiritually mature should have this same attidue. But if you are of a different attitude, God will make this clear to you” (also from Today’s English Version). I believe these passages make it clear that from a Biblical perspective sin is a natural part of human nature and it is holiness, or escape from sin which is unnatural. If holiness was natural to us why would he have to “run straight toward the goal” or strive in order to reach it? We would fall into it without effort, as we fall into sin if we cease to struggle against it. If anyone believes that my interpretation of these passages in incorrect I welcome rebuke, and I am interested in hearing from DK with regards to Biblical indications that sin is unnatural.
