It wasn’t a good movie. It wasn’t very funny. Par for the course with Will Farrell.
It was incredibly stupid and one of the most hilarious movies i have ever watched. I can’t wait for the sequel.
I caught it on late night cable recently. Meh. Had a few laughs, but wasn’t great. It’s the kind of movie that is watchable when I can’t sleep, but I would not make any particular effort to see a sequel.
I think Freddy Got Fingered was quite a good film. Outrageous, of course, but that’s the whole point. I mean, come on. How can you not love the sausages scene? It’s timeless.
I really need to see this again. I only watched it once, but that’s left me wanting more. The sheer anarchy, complete and utter over-the-top reckless abandon, and absurd insanity of the movie just tickles me.
I loved it.
But it’s easily way past Anchorman on the “stupid movie scale.”
I didn’t care for it but it’s called show business, not show funny.* Anchorman* cost $26 million to make and grossed $90 million in theaters alone. I have no idea what it’s cleared on video. So yeah, I understand why they would make a sequel.
I thought it was hilarious. By far my favorite Farrell movie.
Oh, absolutely. I think it pretty much defines one end of the scale.
My wife and I attempted to watch it about a month ago. I was stunned that it was so unfunny. We never quit movies, but we quit this one.
Having said that, I stand aside and acknowledge that we must have missed the boat on this one. Enjoy it for those who do.
Anchorman came out shortly after I reported to be part of the crew of a submarine. It’s the perfect movie for sailors, and it was one of the crew favorites (others were the Jackass movies, Team America, and the 40 Year Old Virgin). We loved movies that didn’t take any effort to watch- and this one fit the bill. I thought it was hilarious, and I’m looking forward to the sequel.
I can understand that kind of appeal. This one just didn’t click with me, but there are plenty of other stupid comedies that do.
I never thought anybody could make Adam Sandler movies look good, but Will Ferrell movies do it by comparison. Kudos Will, you’ve lowered the bar on crap!
Not to threadjack, but Anchorman was clearly better than Napoleon Dynamite.
Freddy Got Fingered, I never even bothered.
I found Anchorman kinda dull, but the stupidest movie ever? In a universe with Outlaw of Gor and Thor and the Amazon Women and Dirty Duck? I think not!
Here is what you have to do, before going in imagine a world where Anchormen are like noble profession going back to the beginning of time. Now extrapolate that out in a strange semi serious nature.
If that doesn’t interest you in the least, avoid the movie simple as that. A couple lines of ketamine don’t hurt either, its a different style of humor based on social absurdity and awkwardness.
I can like Will Ferrell but I definitely do not automatically like Will Ferrell.
When it comes to his vehicle movies, the movies built around him as a comic and have him as one of the primary screenwriters, I make no special effort to put them at the top of my list of things to see.
Anchorman, in my opinion, is Will Ferrell’s most perfect vehicle film and will stand as his Magnum Opus as a comedian. This is the work through which Will Ferrell’s artist’s voice rings through clearly, confidently, and with definition.
All of the above goes the same for his collaborator, director Adam McKay.
Credit to both of them for allowing the supporting cast to shine despite the fact that the film was crafted around the star. This is a rare case of a “vehicle film” that deserves accolades as a great ensemble piece. Remember, this is the film that rocketed Steve Carrell to a whole new level of stardom. David Koechner is in top form, Paul Rudd is in top form, and Christina Applegate held ground facing Ferrell in a way that I would have hypothesized to be impossible for anyone.
For what this film was meant to be, it was perfect. It is for this reason that I dread the sequel. This is an example of a sequel that’s happening for the sole reason that the original was so very successful. The original stands on its own. The original didn’t end with vast opportunities unexplored. The story needn’t be revisted.
Strangely enough, my daughter was watching this last night and I got drawn in.
At first, I thought it was really stupid, but then something happened; it suddenly turned hilarious!
No, I really liked this movie. I have not seen any Will Farrel movies, well maybe some of Elf, which wasn’t funny.
Anchorman is a wonderfully stupid and funny movie.
Agree - not funny to me at all. Couldn’t finish it, and I almost always finish every movie I start watching.
You should probably lay low then, because you’re probably wanted for murder.
