Well, that escalated quickly…
I challenge any of you to read this in Ron Burgundy’s voice and not crack a smile.
That movie made me want to dropkick a dog off a bridge.
But in a good way.
I don’t count myself as a real big Will Ferrell fan – kinda funny, but best absorbed in small doses – but I thought that Anchorman was a pretty entertaining movie. I think that my favorite line is when Tim Robbins and the public news team enter the fight. “No commercials, no mercy!”
As a couple of other posters have said… I wanted to like this movie. I liked Will Ferrell on SNL, and in smaller film roles like the second Austin Powers movie. I like Steve Carell. I went to high school with Judd Apatow for god’s sake! So believe me, I tried. I really tried.
I just found this movie completely un-funny. Not even a little funny. Sorry.
No, I actually wasn’t dogging you. I just found your post to be very Burgundy-esque.
But then again, I often will say mundane things in a Burgundy tone, just for effect. My wife doesn’t find it as awesome as I do.
I like Freddy Got Fingered, and even bought it on DVD when it came out. Watched it multiple times, as well as watched it several times with the commentary track, which is worthwhile. I already liked Tom Green (and had a lot of the old VHS cassettes of both his Canadian and MTV shows), so I kind of knew what I was getting into. I have a bit of a weird taste in humor; I absolutely love absurd/surreal stuff, while not liking a lot of traditional humor.
Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.
Is that a whoosh? I never watched it because of bad word-of-mouth reviews but if this is an example of the good parts, I’ll never see it. No offense intended.
Isn’t there a scene in that movie where Tom Green “helps” deliver a baby in a hospital room and then is swinging it around by it’s umbilical cord?
Because that’s how you roll?
That sounds familiar. I also remember something about drinking milk directly from the udder of a cow. The movie is sheer insanity.
My second-favorite Will Ferrell movie ever. (Favorite: Elf)
Yeah, try not to lose any more hair over it.
Maybe it’s the deadpan delivery (what does San Diego mean?), coupled with the acknowledging of seriously absurd beliefs in the 70s, that make me find it so funny. Also the timing and acting are excellent and there are lots of unforgettable one-liners.
You know it’s based on actual events. Only the names, locations and events have been changed.
Anchorman is extremely quotable. Just yesterday, it being Cinco de Mayo I made myself a big old burrito, so you know what I had to say when I couldn’t finish it…
Did you see Step Brothers? To me, it’s the funniest Ferrell movie. It might be the dumbest though.
I actually liked Step Brothers quite a bit.
You need to watch it again. The first viewing is always weird. But subsequent viewings is really what makes this one a classic.
Not saying it was the funniest movie ever, but I do have a rule. If a movie makes a joke involving PBS* then it is not the stupidest movie ever.
- That is not a ‘Ha, ha, PBS is teh dumb!’ joke.
