Ancient Aliens? Possible or bullshit?

Who’s showing the aliens how to do all this stuff anyway?

Aliens all the way down I guess.

I dunno about that example. Teenagers are pretty crafty at covering their tracks. And it’s especially easy to clean up paintball mess or disable your perception of it if you have alien technology.

Ok, so if the “absence of evidence…” line is unsatisfying I’ll go with “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.” Probably a better fit here anyway since I’m already disinclined to believe.

I’m not claiming an absence of evidence - I’m saying there IS evidence of an absence. We can and have examined the human genome very carefully, as well as lots of other Earth genomes that we can compare it to. If any significant modifications had been made to our species in the past, it would stand out like a sore thumb. There would be sequences that we couldn’t trace back to similar sequences in other species. Those sore thumbs do not exist. There is no evidence of modification; or, if you prefer, there is concrete evidence of no modification. As I explained upthread, there is no reasonable way to claim that aliens have modified us in some way without leaving such evidence behind.

Not even that…more like that’s his WAG.

Not to mention the mistaken insertion of “possible” and the question mark that originally started out as an exclamation point.

I grew up in the Pentecostal Church, so anything that can’t be explained or for which there is solid, contradictory evidence, simply must be taken on faith. It isn’t meant for us to know…

Oh yeah, and this wicked world full of teenagers listening to their devil’s music like Anne Murray and John Denver, is in the end days…never mind they’ve been using that line since a few minutes after the ‘alleged’ ascension of Christ!

Maybe the people speaking in tongues were trying to tell me something, a message from the aliens? But I swear that they always sounded the same each time the “Spirit” entered them and they spoke in tongues…it sounded like they were saying “Bought a Nissan, Shoulda Bought a Honda” with emphasis on different syllables and very careful enunciation…

I love some of my family members who ascribe to those beliefs, but I also can’t help but notice that they would ride the short bus to school, had they ever attended in the first place…coincidence? I think not…

I’m the OP and in my own defense, I was probably half in the bag when I posted this…and if I was drinking and taking Valium, it’s pretty damn impressive that I made any sense at all!

Drinking and valium, eh? Been there, do that (it’s the only way to get either to work anymore). I think that’s the only combo that would get me to sit through an entire episode of Ancient Aliens.

Do yourself a favor, get Carl Sagan’s Cosmos from Netflix. I think a lot of it is outdated & inaccurate now, but at least he is a scientist doing his best with the info he had. I can’t say the same for Ancient Aliens–that’s little more than a reality show with self-described scientists competing for camera time. Plus, Carl can wear the hell out of a brown corduroy suit & turtleneck–now that’s a comeup.

EVERYTHING can be explained.

I’ve been there, and saw nothing that humans with enough people couldn’t have done. Just because you can’t do it means nothing. Very few of us can create the stone tools our very primitive ancestors used (I think one scientist can, after years of practice) cut that doesn’t mean aliens were chipping flint.

They have also found campsites for those who worked on the pyramids - not slaves - which wouldn’t be needed if the aliens had equipment.

And indeed, even when it can’t – yet – be explained, that does not mean there’s any idiotic woo about it. Some steps of photosynthesis are still not completely understood, but that doesn’t mean it’s magic.

Have you been inside the chamber in the great pyramid? It’s a lot bigger than a piece of glass!
I think not if you believe that many workers over many years ( which is what it would have taken, using what they would have had available without advanced technology ) could have produced that surface. Most people wouldn’t even think about it, but being an engineer, I had an interest in how they constructed it when I visited.

I doubt that the masters would have even thought it necessary to do so.

Why wouldn’t they need campsites? Even with advanced technology, it would take years to build them.
BTW, do you really think that they cut all those big stones with stone tools? Stonehenge is an example of stone worked without metal tools, and it looks it. Not so the pyramids.

Can you tell us how long it would have taken to make a 6 side smooth big block of stone by grinding in the manner you tell us? Then multiply by the hundreds of thousands of big stones, and then work out how many years it would take with the available manpower. Assuming they also had to work in the fields to grow food and so on it seems to me it would take a very long time.
BTW, in my “hypothesis” the aliens weren’t asking anyone if they wanted anything, the pyramids would have been for the alien’s purposes, and we have no idea of what that might have been.

Stargate knows

I note that Doggo has returned and completely ignored my request for evidence.

Nova:

So the parts of the structure intended to be seen were finely finished. They didn’t spend a lot of time on the bulk of the structure. Saves a lot of time.

How long does it take to finish one stone? Not that long. It’s been years since I’ve seen the documentary that demonstrated it, but it was a fairly quick process.

As far as working in the fields, how do you manage it? How do you do your job and grow your food, and find the time to post on the Internet (which the Egyptians did not have at the time)?

An “engineer”? Aren’t you the guy who started a thread about how university degrees are pointless for many people and you get along fine as a mechanic without one? Now you’re an engineer?

Maybe he has a model train.

Yes, it was this thread, and you list your qualifications in this post. I’m not sure whether those qualify you as an engineer, but I am certain they do not qualify you to declare that space aliens made the pyramids.
