Ancient Rock Group "Strawberry Alarm Clock"

…“I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night” by the Electric Prunes.

…“In the Year 2525 (Exordius and Terminum)” by Zager and Evans

…Or anything by Syd Barrett

That song that ended with something like 37 godzillion repetitions of “I’m get-ting closer to my world” or “home” or whatever the hell it was. Ouch.

Kalhoun has a point, we’d have to consider ‘Starshine’ as a serious contender.

AHunter, that would be Grand Funk Railroad, I think. The whole period is a bit foggy… Mark Farner was the Hunk Du Jour back then.

Oh, and who could forget:

“I woke up in love this morning.
I woke up in LOVE this morning.
Went to sleep with you
On my miiiinnnd.”

Dude, you suck.

Crimson and Clover is especially meaningful to me and to many other hippies[sup]*[/sup] who lost their virginity while tripping and hearing its spectacular reverberations. Is bery bad to badmouth C and C. Is bery bad.

[sup]*[/sup]A hippie was an ancient species of hominid, circa 1967-1970

Don’t forget “I Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Condition Was In”

Quite the Grinning American success if you remember who did it.

Speaking of bubble-gum psychedelia, I have an album by a SoCal group called “Fun-n-Games”

One of the songs is called – I’m not making this up – “Grooviest Girl in the World.”

Sample lyric:
“Cause you’re the grooviest girl in the world
You’re a feminine portrait of grace
You’re the grooviest girl in the world
And I’m a guy with impeccable taste”

There was a band called the Mindbenders who did the classic, “We’ve Got A Groovy Kind Of Love”

"Any time you want to
you can turn me on to
any thing you want to
any time at all.

When you’re close to me
I can hear your heartbeat
I can feel you breathing in my hair.

Wouldn’t you agree
Baby you and me
Got a groovy kind of love.

Lib, you’re right. The WA-WA pedal really put Crimson & Clover on the map. Way hip, dude. Way hip.

Yeesh, I try to rescue Greg Munford from the ashheap of history, and then I go and mangle his name beyond all recognition.

Forgive me Greg, wherever you are!

[vaguely relevant hijack] The very amusing breakfast show on Dublin’s FM104 is called the Strawberry Alarm Clock, presumably as an homage to the group. [/hijack]

Let’s not forget “Pictures of Matchstick Men” (which was covered by Camper Van Beethoven, which included David Lowery, who is now a resident of my fair city and the leader of Cracker).

I don’t know how that happened, but Kenny Rogers was the singer of “I just dropped in to see what condition (my condition) was in”.

“I Just Dropped In” was by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition (everyone forgets the First Edition).
Yeah "Crimson and Clover was a great “make-out” song. It brings back memories.
As for the young’ns that seem to disparage the 60’s and its music, 30 years from now, remember what you have said right now.
Then the young’ns will be saying “What is the silliest Eminem song ever”?
Enjoy your youth. It never lasts.

I can see the black light posters on the wall now…

I remember Strawberry Alarm Clock was the epitome of stupid psychedelic band names even back then…every local band started coming up with off-the-wall names after that.

The very best of these sorta-one-hit psychedelic wonder songs, and still fun to listen to every once in awhile, is In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly.

YUMPIN’ YIMMINY!

Where the fresh hell did that come from?!?!:smack:

Groovy kind of love was written by Carole Bayer Sager & Toni Wine- as teenagers. Where did wayne Fontana go?
