I have no cite for this, but I was once told that Corey Feldman’s dad was a member of Strawberry Alarm Clock.
I only knew “Groovy Kind of Love” from Phil Collins’ cover of it.
You want some really obscure psychedelia, you should check out Os Mutantes from Brazil, 60’s-era purveyors of fine Tropicalia music. Some of their stuff was actually quite good, but I remember a song called “Save Lucifer for Me,” in which they ask that the devil himself be delivered on a tray.
Far out.
How about Vanilla Fudge? Actually they did do a creepy version of “Windmills of your Mind” which is worth a listen.
I forgot to add
“I Had Too Much To Dream Lastnight”
“look at yourself, look at yourself”…“who cares what things we choose, little to win, and nothing to lose”!
Such profundity! I wonder if the guy who wrote this was high on LSD at the time!
Where else? I thought San Francisco was more of a psychedelic-band haven than LA. Unless, of course, you’re emphasizing the “bubble gum” part…
Strange thing is, I liked incense and peppermints. It was lightweight, but went well with op art and tie-dyed clothing. Remember, what is too ridiculous to be said can be sung.
