And Bones is.....KARL URBAN????

Um…WHAT???

BBC.com Story (Well, mainly about Chris Pine, but listing the rest of the crew)
Karl Urban? Like as in the guy who has played badasses in Pathfinder, Doom, The Bourne Supremacy and so forth? Who played Eomer in the LotR movies? Who played Caesar in the Xena series?

KARL FUCKING URBAN IS LEONARD MCCOY???

Maybe I just didn’t get enough sleep this morning, because I’m having a serious hard time wrapping my head about that one.

Just like in Doom, I suspect they cast him based on the expressive eyebrows alone.

Karl Urban as Bones and Zachary Quinto as Spock. Mmmm, slashy…

My first thought was “That was one incredible sex change operation that Dr. Brenner had.”

Karl Urban also played Cupid on Xena. (Well, not “on” Xena.)

Best news for slashers since James Marsters got a guest spot on Torchwood.

Hmmm. Wouldn’t have been my first choice. A few months back The Plain Dealer film critic suggested Gary Sinise, who I think would’ve been a lot better. We’ll see…

Most of the casting I’m pretty meh about…

But Simon fucking Pegg as Scotty? Oh come on! I’ll admit that I’m probably the only Brit who thinks that Pegg’s as funny as a dose of the clap, but can anyone see him as Scotty?

This is almost as bad as Catherine Tait in Doctor Who.

Although thinking about it… Catherine Tait as a pre-op Scotty… It does have possibilities.

Gary Sinise would indeed be an excellent choice. He’s got both the look and the acting ability to pull this off.

As for Karl Urban, he’s a movie villian, not a doctor.

Gary Sinise is too damn old (52) to play “young” Dr. McCoy. Hell, he’s older than DeForest Kelley was during the original run of the show (the show first aired when Kelley was 46).

I do wish they had picked a Southerner to pay the good doctor. Now I fear we will have to endure yet another badly-faked Southern accent brought to us by Hollywood.

Chris Pine?!?!?!?
As probably the only person here who has seen Blind Dating, all I can say is-Chris Pine???!?!?!?

Wait, wait, wait, hold up…

James Marsters and John Barrowman were on-screen together? At the same time?

Nice language.

I’m with Zebra. Chris Pine as Kirk? Really? Seriously?

The mind boggles.

I guess he’s got the right look, but I just can’t imagine him pulling it off.

So far nothing about this movie is as it seems - hopefully it will be a parody - or all of this is ‘mis direction’.

I know, I thought Shia LeBeouf had the role wrapped up.

My recollection is that DeForest Kelley’s pre-Trek career included a lot of tough-guy parts.

James Marsters will appear in the first episode of the second season of Torchwood–coming to the UK in 2008. Since Torchwood has done quite well on BBCamerica, I’m sure we’ll get our chance. (Sooner or later.) More here.

From a Barrowman interview:

When 'verses collide!

Crossovers are good. (To bring us back to Eomer/Caesar/Cupid in the Trek 'verse.)

I was watching a “Bonanza” rerun the other day in which De Forest Kelley guested, playing a doctor, ironically enough. I was struck at how much Gary Sinise resembles him. This was filmed in 1962, 4 years before “The Man Trap”.

English? I dunno. I think it’s too much of a mishmash of many other languages.
