Sigh, no this is apparently an annual tradition with URLjet. I sign up with automatic domain renewal, a year passes and the domain expires, I open a ticket asking what the hell, they renew it and assure me they’ve got the renewal thing set up right this time and next year we won’t have this issue.

A whois still shows the contacts as being at UrlJet, so it’s available for Giraffe to pick back up. Most registrars nowadays give a grace period before letting the spammers and scammers loose on your domain. (Meaning, they do it themselves for a little extra scratch on the side while you take care of the renewal.)
