And I looked, and behold a Red Socked horse, and his name that sat on him was Boston

Sackcloth? Check. Ashes? Check. Let the wailing of the vanquished and celebratory hooting of the victors begin. Congratulations, Boston-you outplayed us. Well done, one and all. Same time, next year?

danceswithcats, you are a true gentleman. Thank you.

So is Steinbrenner going to whip out his VISA check card to present his Bronx Bumblers this momento?

What an anti-climactic end, though. We didn’t even get a bottom-of-the-ninth-two-outs-come-from-behind-grand-slam.

Damn impressive feat to beat the Yanks after being 3-0 in the beginning of the series. Congrats to Boston.
they prolly cheated…
just kidding.
not.

It wouldn’t be baseball otherwise.

As a Yankee fan, my hat is off to the Bosox. I’ll be rooting for them in the Series. (Though knowing the Sox’s capacity for irony, I suspect they will end up losing to Roger Clemens in the seventh game.)

Isn’t it too late for the Cardinals to sign Roger Clemens?

  1. Congrats to the Sox. I salute your fine effort and historic victory. As a Mets fan, I wish it were the blue n’ orange you’d be facing in the WS instead of the Astros or Cards…but then, you don’t have Buckner anymore, so we might have a time of it.

  2. To the Yankees…what the hell? Ah well, as much as it really does pain me to say it, you probably had it coming. Couldn’t have happened more poetically, or with a better matchup.

  3. Just out of curiosity, why is this in the Pit?

As a Twins fan living in Red Sox Nation, I have this to say to the Yankees:

[Nelson]
Ha, HA!
[/Nelson]

Because any Yankees & RedSox thread is bound to end up here anyway?

BTW, Yankees lose! Yankees lose! Yankees lose!

This part I’ll agree with. Too many of the Yankees players, and most of their fans, seem to just expect the rest of the AL to roll over for them. Case in point: Rivera. Rivera has built up a mystique, and scares a lot of the league. The Sox have seen him too often, and beaten him too much to be scared by now. Jeter and Williams were still willing to play small ball if necessary to move forward, but Sheffield, A-Rod, and others were just embarrassed.

The Yankees had a great run, but that run started with young, talented, hungry players. Now they plug in any big-money free agent or trade and assume they’ll fit. Meanwhile, they’ve abandoned or forgotten basics, like the pitching rotation and middle relief.

The team got fat and happy, and by extension, so did their fans. Lucchino said “all empires fall eventually”, and he was correct. Many have fallen in much the same way, for instance Rome with its mercenary armies and luxuriating citizens.

They’ll be back next year, simply on raw talent. But they have to make a fundamental shift in strategy to return to what caused their 90’s resurgance. If history is any guide, however, Steinbrenner will order the acquisition of Beltran and a bunch of other big names, and the shift won’t happen.

Did you read what I had
written first?

Um, no. Not that the analysis was brilliantly incisive, I thought it was a bit plain to see. The fact that we came up with it from opposite sides makes it all the more glaring.

I think it’s a little early to be predicting the fall of the Yankees. Long term? Yes, you need to make adjustments, but you have a few years of quality baseball left in the current version (with better pitching).

As a Red Sox fan, I can’t tell you how thrilled I am at the moment, but at the same time I would like to thank the New York Yankees and their fans for a truly unforgettable ALCS. You do have a first rate baseball team you should be proud of.

Sure, there were a couple of regettable incidents, but by and large this was the finest week of baseball I’ve ever seen.

Amazing job Boston, the better team won the series. The Yanks didn’t choke, Boston outplayed them.

Go Card / Astros! :stuck_out_tongue:

Very classy World Eater.

I have a feeling I’m going to puking crow by the end of the day.

:o <-------------I’ll be looking something like this.

Not only did the Sox come back from 0-3, I think there are more Yankees threads active right now than Bush/Kerry threads.

Today has been a true breakthrough in porcine flight.
P.S.
GO ASTROS!!!

If the 'stros win, the World Series will mirror the Presidential election. MA Vs TX

I certainly don’t think Steinbrenner will let this debacle pass without a major shakeup, esp. of the pitching staff. No expense will deter him; the only question is: Who will he buy, and how much will he dole out before NY wins another 'Series?
