Been going to interviews and sending out resumes for almost 14 months. This was just another one, no expectations, way over qualified but I really needed a job. Doesn’t pay as much as I would like but not bad really.
Lately (is 8 months lately?) the deal breaker seems to be that if I haven’t found a job, then that disqualifies me from getting a job.
But these were nice folks, they didn’t ask why I haven’t found a job, they just said its time I went back to work and they were going to help me with that.
So Monday I re-join the ranks of the tax payers and one more over 60 yr old is back on the job.
Congrats and best wishes! I hope it works out well for you and your new employers. Too many employers not willing to hire older folks and/or someone that’s been looking for quite a while.
Yay!! And it’s encouraging. My spousal unit is starting to put out feelers - he’s getting aggravated with his company, but at 56, he’s aware that his age and experience may be against him. So maybe there’s hope that he can escape to a better place… of employment.
Congratulations! Gives me hope. I’m a little older and I’ve been looking longer… sigh.
I teach a continuing ed drawing class at the community college so I sometimes get some $$$ but it doesn’t always attract enough students to run. Like this semester, for instance. Really could use something more regular, even if it’s part-time. A temp agency where I’m registered recently sent an email asking if I were still interested in/available for assignments. I said yes but nothing yet. Fingers crossed.
I was right there with you for over 2 years, but I did get to freelance on occasion. It was sooooo hard calculating how I’d pay for things like car insurance when it’s due.
Congratulations! You’ll feel great when you clock in!
