And now: What about all those cops turning their backs on De Blasio?

Do you have evidence supporting your view that stop-and-frisk, or broken windows policing in general, had anything to do with the decline in crime in NYC from the late 1980s through today?

“Victor five-nine, I’ve got a maroon 4-door '82 Buick Skylark, registered to a Petunia Stubbs… 82-year-old female Caucasian. Suspect appears to be armed with an explosive device, some kind of oxygen tank. Need immediate backup, repeat, immediate backup!”

I know them Stubbs and Petunia is the worst one.

Why would the police or mayor resort to documented evidence to support their claims that violent crimes and crimes in general were reduced? Everyone knows that criminals simply leave an area because they want to give the locals a break.

Areas of NYC have become healthy, tax-revenue producing areas because of increased police patrols. New businesses have been coming to areas that were now safer than they had been. Over the decades, there have been many programs and policies in addition to “broken windows” and “stop and frisk”. Is any one of them solely responsible for improvements to an area? I don’t think so. Does the awareness that cops will be stopping turn-style jumpers convince gang-bangers to leave their switchblades and firearms at home? Probably. Even criminals are smart enough to know where they’re not wanted AND A GOOD GUY WITH A GUN IS WILLING TO CONFRONT THEM, with as much backup as necessary.

In other words, you have no evidence.

Why do you assume that there was a decline in crime in NYC from the late 1980s through today? Did someone tell you that, did you just make it up, or did you see statistics that suggested there was a drop in crime? If there was a decline, was it because career criminals simply decided to abandon their life of crime, or because the mayor simply asked career criminals to stop preying on people, or because there were police officers who were willing to risk their lives?

I saw statistics reflecting a drop in crime (pdf). Also long-term stats on homicides.

There are many reasons why crime could have declined, whether you’re imaginative enough to contemplate them or not. Some may have had to do with policing, others not. Those that had to do with policing could have been related to “broken windows,” or to other changes in how police do their work. Your assumption that crime declined because of broken windows policing is (partially) supported by the chronology of events but not much else.

Here’s hoping the rooster crows tomorrow, lest the sun not rise.

You say that government produces economic growth! Heresy! To the stake with the blasphemer!!

Well, they’ve apparently decided to test the proposition “We’re underworked and overpaid by a factor of two” and demonstrated it to be true. The policy prescriptions that flow from this result are left as an exercise for the student.

This. It has nothing to do with any armed insurrection or civil war against cops. it has nothing to do with any real fear (if they are that terrified they need to find a different job). It has to do with a union fight against, and a personal grudge against their boss, the mayor.

No class, self important, petulant assholes.

That “claim” was manufactured lies, originating out of the Baltimore Fox affiliate station. the people involved had edited the tapes. Since that time they have been fired. By Fox, who also issued a retratcion. The protestors were NOT calling for the killing of cops.

Gosh, no, I did not say that. Are you responding to the correct thread?

That specific guy had already been declared unfit by his previous bosses at another police department.

That patticular video was selectively edited. But the authenticity of a different video where hooligans chant, “what do we want? Dead cops!” is not in dispute.

I remember a clip from Making Sense of the Sixties where armed and uniformed Black Panthers standing in ranks were chanting, “Revolution is co-ome! OFF THE PIGS! Time to take up the gu-un! OFF THE PIGS!” Of course, they never actually offed any AFAIK.

I know. I’m sure they’re all having a good laugh about this back at their hide out.

I’m pretty confident doorhinge thinks every criminal looks like this.
Only, yanno, blacker.

Wait! This is momentous news and cannot be glossed over because the **doorhinge **show is in town–Fox News RETRACTED a story? Sure, it was an affiliate, but has corporate heard about this?

Fox News reported promptly on CNN’s retraction of CNN’s story, along with comments by Steve Douche mourning the unreliability of the liberal media.
