And so I'm sick. Two days before a major exam. What do I do?

So I am sick, down with some sort of sinus/throat infection, and the first of my major exams are coming soon (Friday!) and I have tonnes of materials not done yet. Great, so what shall I do? Go on cramping stuff into my feverish brain? Lie low for a day and hope I get better? Hang up the towel and just sleep through the next few days?

I think you need to speak to your teachers/school/college and let them know you are sick asap. Is there any opportunity to postpone/re-sit? Can you get a medical sign off? Call them and let them know - they may be able to do more than you know (and they’ll hear your poor croaky voice for themselves).

If your exams are very important, then, (if at all possible), I think you shouldn’t take them when you’re not at your best.

If you don’t have any choice, and you must take them, then I recommend;

A) A day of proper rest/sleep first - this really is the best medicine
B) Load yourself up with vitamin c/zinc/berocca/
C) Drink as much (room temp) water as you can possibly manage, and lots of warm herbal tea
D) Wrap up nice and toasty, especially round the throat
E) Try a throat painkiller with a local anathestic - I use chloraseptic which is a spray that goes down your throat and just numbs the whole lot for an hour or so (good for an exam)
F) Use a general cough/cold remedy to bring your temp down.

Good luck for Friday - I will be sending you good exam karma!

I agree with the pre-emptive strike approach. Talk to the teacher and see if you can get rescheduled.

I agree, contact your teacher. In the meantime, keep studying but eat well, drink lots of water and go to bed early.

And go see a doctor right away. Your school’s policies may not let you have an exam rescheduled for sickness without a medical certificate (the forms are probably available at your school’s health centre or what have you).

Hope everything works out, being sick during exams sucks.
