And the good news is . . . .YOU FUCKING IDIOT, 250+ PEOPLE DIED!!! WHAT GOOD NEWS????

Was I the only one that got really annoyed by hearing anchors and analysts yesterday using the phrase “good news” concerning yesterday’s plane crash? Some tidbits I heard:

“well the good news is that it looks like it was mechanical failure, not a terrorist act”

“well the good news I guess is that the engine didn’t hit that tanker truck”

***MORONS!!! 250 FUCKING PEOPLE DIED!!! THERE IS NO GOOD NEWS!!! ***

And I am NOT RELIEVED that it was apparently not a terrorist act- actually that scares me MORE!!! Terrorist acts can be prevented . . . .now we have to worry about how safe planes are???

Here’s a few BETTER phrases:

“it could have been worse”

“if the plane crashed over Manhattan, it could have been even more tragic”

Look, I understand there is some relief that it wasn’t another act of terrorism . . . but can we use a LITTLE more tact???

Yaeh, tell that to the victims families: “Sorry you lost your husband, but the good news is more people were not killed, and WOO-HOO!!! IT WASN’T A BOMB!”

Ok, perhaps those are phrased tactlessly, but you can’t tell me that it could not possibly have been worse. It could certainly have been worse.

More people could have died; that would have been worse. It could have been a terrorist act, and that would have been worse.

Hundreds of people died, and that’s dreadful (in fact, most of the “good news” I’ve heard has come prefaced by “It’s certainly dreadful, but at least…”). But five thousand people died two months ago, and a lot of people are relieved it doesn’t seem to be a repeat of the same thing. People take comfort where they can find it. Surely you can understand that.

What, this is the first plane crash due to mechanical failure that has occured during your life time?

Planes crashed before September 11, you know, and if you didnt worry about how safe they were before, I see no reason for you to start worrying now.
Good gravy.

Personally I had no problem with the “good news” bit. Silver linings, baby.
