And the music fades to nothing

I listen to iTunes internet radio all day. It has everything!

When my daughter calls via Skype, the music fades out. Which is very cool. After the call has ended the music slowly increases to the previous volume. Also very cool.

How does Microsoft (owner of Skype) do that? iTunes is the other guy.

You can control the volume of different apps independantly thru the sound card drivers. My guess is that they are not turning the sound down IN iTunes but rather turning the sound down of the iTunes instance.

There may well be an interface to the application to do such things, which is a much cleaner way of doing things than going to the drivers.

Here’s an app that controls all sorts of music players (iTunes, Spotify etc) including being able to change the volume:

Heh, I’ve noticed the same in my car with Pandora and Google Maps. Google tells me a turn is coming up by gently talking over Pandora. Waze and Apple Maps doesn’t do it as seamlessly.

My car increases and decreases the volume from the iPod depending on my speed. It was disconcerting for weeks till I realized it was doing it on purpose. :smack:

“And the music of the pearl drifted to a whisper and disappeared.”
The Pearl, Steinbeck.

My phone doesn’t decrease the volume. It puts whatever application that’s playing on pause. When the call is over, it starts it up again. It does it also when I’m driving using the navigation ap. It’s very nice because I mostly listen to podcasts and this way I don’t miss anything.
