And then, depression set in.

I just hit the two-week mark of being unemployed. Damn, I’m bored.

The game company I was working for has gone under, as is the usual reward for finishing a game. I was never really happy at that company, but I hadn’t realized just how boring unemployment is. I’ve updated my website, I’ve read two books, I’ve puttered around the house, and I’ve played TONS of Battlefield 1942.

I’ve sent out, at this point, over fifty emails to other game companies, tellin’ 'em how great I am and implying just how much money they’d make if they hired me… and I’ve had ONE response- it was a form rejection letter. I’m not really too concerned about that, though; in this industry, it’s really who you know, not what. Besides, the hiring process for companies like this is blindingly slow.

But still… I’m bored.

Think maybe I should reorganize my sock drawer again?

Two weeks?! That’s no time at all.

Sorry you lost your job though.

Lightnin’, I’m at the two month mark, and I’ve got to agree. The boredom’s the worst.

Hang in there!

Weird. My brother-in-law was laid off from a game company in Austin over two years ago and is still unemployed. Well, I think he’s working part-time now…

Maybe this is a dumb question, but is e-mail really the proper form for a resume? If I were looking for a job I would send an e-mail cover letter with a resume attached in Microsoft Word format. No offense, but maybe that’s why you haven’t heard back? If you haven’t already, go out and buy Job Hunting for Dummies (or something similar) and one of those resume books. The last time I looked for a job (9 months ago), both of those resources helped immensely.

Good luck, Lightnin’.!

I’m just over the two month point, although I chose to leave my last job.

School keeps me fairly busy (and I am supposed to be studying for Monday’s midterm), but I usually get fairly bored between class Wednesday night and class Monday night. I only have classes M-T-W. Next semester I’ll have classes T-Th if I get the ones I want.

It’s time to find something, partly to alleviate the boredom and partly because I haven’t hit the savings yet (I’ve been living off my last two paychecks + excess financial aid), but within a month I’ll probably be into the savings if I don’t pick up something.

Sorry to hear that you are out of work! I confess that this line made me smile

not because of your distress, but because it is all too accurate.

Hey, here’s an idea. In this thread, snugglebear has an idea about a game. Maybe you can hook up. It might not cure your unemployment, but might cure your boredom and depression.

Just a thought. Good luck!
