And yet another flu shot question

Perhaps this has been answered in one of the H1N1 threads, but it’d take forever to find it.

Is there any reason why the H1N1 vaccine can’t be included with the “normal” flu shot, simply adding the strain to the ones that are already there? Or is time working against that option?

It was time. The seasonal flu shot was already in production by the time the H1N1 hit in early May. The decision to proceed with H1N1 vaccine as a needed thing was still more time coming, July I think. Some thought was made to halting seasonal production to start H1N1 earlier but I believe they decided to hurry the seasonal one through and then start up H1N1. Odds are next year’s standard vaccine will contain this H1N1.
