And you thought you were distraught over the Bush win.

As someone who considered a ‘protest suicide’ after a hotly contested election didn’t go the way I’d wanted it to go*, I have to say I agree with both those saying there has to be more than just election results to make this guy commit suicide, and those saying that it’s a stupid reason to kill oneself. Of course, as someone who’d had the great fun of living with a suicidal roommate at one point, my patience with suicide, and suicide talkers/threateners, is best measured using negative numbers. So, I have to confess to having a little quirk of humor at the gallows humor. Even though I do feel it was a bit inappropriate.

Besides, Darwins aren’t awarded for suicides.

Seriously, how does an intelligent person fail at suicde? I’m inclined to believe that most people who survive suicide attempts don’t mean to die. Which doesn’t make the situation any less terrible for friends or family, or mean that they’re less ill or deserving of compassion - just that a suicide attempt survived is a call for help more often than it is a serious attempt to die.

*If I thought for one instant that the winning candidate would give a damn about someone being so upset at the victory that they’d self-immolate I might have been tempted to go through with it. As it was, null temptation, really. Just an odd thought.

Ever hear of Rippy the Razor?

<Seinfeld>

More to the point, if you fail at suicide, why do you suddenly stop trying? I mean, it’s not like your life got any better and, hey, it’s just another thing you fail at.

</Seinfeld>

Yeah, I realize that now. Just ignore me last night…I was a tad over-emotional, and I let it get to me.

I think I’ll be having my Sense-O-Humor-Meter tuned today at some point. I wonder if they do that at Target.

Ava

I wonder if he killed himself because Bush won?

Or because Kerry lost?

Brutus
The article in the op was quoting the Newsday article. So saying that Newsday is saying the same thing is not getting a second source.
Come on Brutus, can’t you find a way to implicate Bill and Hillary?

Now that would be really pathetic.

So true. Why just this week, I turned my Evil Liberal Mind Control Ray on four more students. Surprised the hell out of them, I can tell you…right in a middle of a discussion of the second derivative test, ZAP! They’re currently held in pods in the Evil Liberal Conspiracy HQ, being kept in biological stasis by Evil Liberal Face-Huggers during their re-programming.

Either that, or The Truth is a paranoid nitwit.

Really, I had an opposite reaction. I thought killing himself over Bush winning would be really pathetic.

Killing himself over Kerry losing would be outright bonkers.

Oh come on, he was one of those anti-Bush fanatics (liars), a very common breed that pollutes various internet sites.

He obviously sacrificied himself because of Bush. In an article one of his coworkers said she wasn’t sure if he was even for Kerry (Like many who voted for Kerry), but he certainly was anti-Bush.

He also seemed to be fond of the terrorist loving Al-Jazeera channel, as he had a poster for some movie about Al-Jazeera hanging on his wall.

According to that article:*
Veal worked in a computer lab at the University of Georgia *
Now unless he swept the floor there, couldn’t we guess his job required a bit of intelligence? Someone like that might feel a “tad” upset that a guy with an IQ of a turnip just got re-elected President. Also, this turnip IQ President defeated a candidate who was much more intelligent, presented himself much better and could say thw word NOO-KLEE-AR correctly.

Nice theory. So this highly intelligent genius who killed himself in a pathetic fashion did so because Bush has such a “turnip” IQ ?

One might wonder who the real dummy is.

:dubious:

TheTruth
“Dubya’s” getting re-elected again for the second time may have triggered extreme frustration. Well, at least he no longer has to listen to Dubya Bush’s misspeakables anymore. (Hey that’s a damned good reason right there).

Tell me, how could this person commit suicide in a non-pathetic fashion?

Suicide as an expression of unbounded optimism? You mean, like, “Shit, things are so fucking great, I can’t stand it!” Hmmmm, perhaps if this notion were spread more widely in, ah, certain segments of the population…

No. That would be wrong. Bad 'luci! Bad! Go lay down by your water dish!

He could have finished himself off in his home state for example, and not tried to make a silly, political statement by choosing to dispose of his life at ground zero, of all places. How disrespectful.

Wow… what a wonderful unfounded assumption.

Since he didn’t leave a note, why do you assume it was a political statement?

Maybe, just maybe, he went there for his own reasons?

Yeah. The nerve of using 9/11 for political purposes. Some people simply have no sense of decency.

Sure. But with Bush’s track record, that’s like hoping Carrot Top can actually devise a comedy act that’s not moronic, juvenile, and an embarassment to the human race.

A life most valuable, immolation reckoning. May your sacrifice serve as an eternal light, brother. Boddhisattva teachings.

note: I will not make light of this man’s conviction nor devalue his life as many have demonstrated. A life with meaning, a death with meaning. Unfortunately, this is what many have yet to understand about our “war” against terrorism. He has illuminated truth manifold.
