Andrea Doria (who the ship was named after) was not a woman, he was a general & a total bad ass!

See, I was under the impression that that -a means female was a general rule in all romance languages. I would expect the male version to be Andreo or just plain Andre.

If I didn’t remember a particular thread of yours, I’d be asking you if you were female as I’ve always supposed.

I always get him confused with Andrea Dworkin. Did the Ottoman navy make a lot of porn, so I can call it even?

As noted it is of Greek origin.

My first name is Nikola ( I’m male ) and though in my case it is of Serbo-Croatian origin, it is also common in Italy as a male name. Again, Greek derivation.

Really? I’ve never heard Bocelli called “Andre”. It’s “Ahn - dray - a” for both, as far as I know. (I wasn’t familiar with Andrea Doria before this thread.)
