Android Alarm set question

Umm… Just switched over from BlackBerry to Android. The phone is brand new. I can’t find the alarm. As in wake my ass up.

I’ve looked in all my apps for Alarm or clock and nothing is there.

Do I need to down load an app just to use the alarm function?

Look in your program list for the clock and open it. Look on the bottom of the screen, and you’ll see a tab for “Alarm”.

Opening up ‘All Apps’ does not show anything called program list, clock or alarm. My wife has Alarm in the All Apps list. Mine does not.

Is ‘Program List’ the same as ‘All Apps’?

It’s called “Alarm and Timer” on my Bionic. I’m 98% sure it came with the phone. IIRC it was called something else (Clock maybe?) on my Droid, but it also came with the phone. I would assume everything in between also has one that comes with it as well.

Your program list should open up from any of your home screens. At the bottom of each screen are three icons, a phone, an arrow, and a contacts icon. The arrow should open up your program list.

Yep. It’s called ‘Alarm and Timer’ On my Wife’s Droid eh whatever. II I think. That Star Wars one.

I have the HTC incredible II. It ain’t there. Really weird.

Sucks I need it. It must be in this software. ver - 4.08.605.3

Side note… Droid is calling it a Software ‘number’ instead’ of the correct term version.

Not on this phone. I have 4 icons. The home screen, the menu the back button (that’s the arrow), and a magnifiing glass that brings up the keyboard.

Then, above that is the grid looking key to open up all apps. the phone key and a pallet an paint brush to personalize. I have no control over any of those. And that’s the way it came.

I have the Incredible II and it came with my phone. It’s the clock that shows up on your home page. Double click on the clock and it opens the app. There are tabs along the bottom, one is for the alarm.

The platform on all Androids is not the same. I have a GalaxyS2, and it has the alarm setting in the “clock” app on the home screen. Samsung has its own overlay (I forget the tech name for it) over the Android OS, so it works a little differently, and I believe other manufacturers do something similar which makes them all a little different. It might help if we knew what phone/model you have. You could also look up forums for your particular phone, and your carrier might have specific help pages for it. For instance, ATT has the “how-to” manual in their website for my phone, where it came with no manual aside from a quick-start guide and it specifically stated to use ATT’s website for instructions.

First place I looked for it. Makes sense since the clock should carry the alarm. No amout of tapping on the clock does anything unless I go down to the weather part in the clock. I’m going to change the clock type from the default and will try again.

I have the HTC Insight and on the All Apps screen there is an icon for Clock which includes an alarm (as well as a timer, an hourglass, and some other stuff). If yours is not already loaded, have you tried going to the Marketplace to find a free clock/alarm app?

ETA: It looks like tapping the time display on the home page works for me also.

Odd. I’d like the app that I guess was suppose to come with this version of the software. I would rather not go to the market place. I really don’t even know what that is. All cell phones should have at least an alarm as standard stuff. Very odd.

I added a different basic clock to another screen and no taps will get any response from it.

Heh.

Well FYI. I had installed Angree Birds today (yeah I knpw, but I had heard about it. It’s really not my bag).

I uninstalled it and it seems that I have access to my clock. Though I’m not really sure. But when I tap on it, I now get some options.

Ah - I missed the post that said what phone you had - anyway, since I’m a dork and love reading manuals and stuff, here’s the pdf manual for your phone if you haven’t consulted it already. I would think if your phone isn’t the same as this manual, something’s wrong. I would worry that it’s defective or a refurbish or something. It specifically says you should have a pre-loaded clock widget on page 174. If you haven’t done much fiddling with it, maybe a factory restore will set it right? That would be a pain if your contacts and emails are already set up, though.

Upon preview - I wonder if maybe your phone does have something wrong with it!

From the manual for Incredible2 pg 179:

Simulposting! I hope it’s working right for you now!

D

Yep. Mostly. I can set the alarm but I have two cities in it. Umm… Boise? No. I’m in Colorado. I would like to get rid of Boise as my home city.

I think it’s difficult because I’m a programmer/systems analyst and this damn thing is trying to think for me.

Drives me nuts.

There’s a very good free app called Alarm Clock Xtreme.

Any particular reason you’d not like to go into the Market? It has oodles of interesting applications as well as little games for wasting idle moments. I particularly like the Aldiko app which allows me to read books, which is not that difficult once you get used to the screen size.

Ignorance on my part. I really have no idea what it is and am just used to getting stuff right off the net. I had a couple of readers on my BB storm, which had a smaller screen but worked out just fine. I’ll check out Aldiko. Thanks.
