Andy Goldsworthy

If you’ve never seen any of his art, run a google search or see if they have one of his books at your local B&N. I would kill to go to a show of his- if he does any.

Just the coolest stuff I have ever seen. Maybe I’m a nature hugging hippie, but it’s soooo damn cool.

Okay, he does do shows. www.hainesgallery.com/AG.work.html

He is absolutely my favourite contemporary artist. Fantastic.

Doesn’t mean you’re a hippy if you appreciate a unique aesthetic.

Goldsworthy is great. His work always reminds me of Situationist International stuff. Yet is so isolated, it is hard just to “happen” across. Though I would love to someday. Charles Simonds is another artist I admire. He makes tiny installations out of natural substances (mostly clay) and he used to leave them around in urban locations, though I think he does mostly gallery work now.

He’s fantastic. Made me want to go out and rearrange rocks in the nearby woods.

Are there other artists following his methods, or expanding upon them?

Yeah, I have seen other people ripping him o… I mean following his methods. Can’t remember any names tho.

You might want to check out Magdelena Abakanowicz. Her work is more figurative than Goldsworthy’s and very haunting.

Sorry, i’ve seen it spelled both Magdalena and Magdelena

Thanks for the Abakanowicz tip, I’ll have a look.

The other thing that’s appealing about Goldsworthy is that somehow he’s captured the spirit of the artifacts that prehistoric people created. I look at Lascaux, and … nothing … I look at Goldsworthy, and suddenly I understand.
