In the spirit of this comment, I have long disliked Andy Reid as a head coach. Sure, he has met with success a few times, but cannot win the big game, has consistently been a horrible game-day coach, cannot manage the clock, is incredibly predictable on offense, cannot serve effectively as a GM/Head Coach/Offensive Play Caller, and is totally arrogant in the manner in which he approaches the fans, the media… in short, any public speaking content is vapid, insulting, repetitive, boring, and inaccurate.
The problem is, Jeff Lurie is loaded beyond belief, is a raging narcissist, and is equally stubborn at attributing any fault towards Reid, at least publicly.
So, what say ye? Can we turn on the kitchen timer, and prepare the forkage?
Please, please no. As a Giants fan of the highest order, I fricking well love these last few Reid years.
Andy’s the man, Lurie! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! And forget starting the Kolb era too…Donovan has plenty of quality years left in him. Don’t go after any receivers, either…they’ll gel eventually!
Yeah, I had swallowed the Kool-Aid a few years ago, but man, I must have some kind of immunity to the poison, because I’m sick of his shit. Run on 3rd and 4th down as the last plays of the game when you’re behind like last week?
I have to man up and say that, while I don’t like his style, Andy Reid has earned my respect. The man actually admitted he was wrong, changed his ways to balance the passing game, and managed the season with class as well as success. He even adjusted at halftime during the game against the Giants and the Eagles clobbered them in the 3rd quarter.
Two weeks in a row, he has out-coached the opposition, showed better clock management, stuck with his game plan, and won.
In yesterday’s game, when they were first and goal with 10 seconds to go in the first half and no timeouts, I was completely expecting a handoff to Westbrook, or at best, a screen pass. I was shocked they actually threw it to the endzone to protect the clock and get the field goal.
The Eagles defense is certainly one constant that has been very good under Reid, even when they’ve had spates of offensive one-dimensionality.
They sure looked good yesterday. Could they be this season’s Giants?
Everyone was hating on Coughlin early last year. Many Philly fans were hating on Reid and McNabb earlier this year.
If you had told me that the Eagles were going to the NFC championship game the day they tied my beloved Bungles, I would have advised you to stop smoking crack. They really turned things around.
And t’would have been good and timely advice, because my actual crack smoking addiction started during the second half and OT of that game as a way to beat back the pain.
I realize I am reviving my own 2-year-old thread, but it is as relevant today as it was nearly 2 years ago to the day… they were 5-4 at the time, and went on to win 6 straight, followed by two humiliating losses to the Cowboys…
two years later, they are 3-6, tied for last in the NFC East, lost two in a row at home to the Bears and Cardinals, and Reid appears to have lost his players.
putting the DeSean Jackson debacle aside (perhaps not starting the guy would have sufficed?), he forgets to run the ball with a lead and both his starting WRs out of the line-up (McCoy only has two touches in the 4th quarter), the defense gives up a lead in the 4th quarter, a defense lead by an incompetent rookie coach with no experience coaching on the defensive side of the line.
The Philly sports media are calling for Reid to go, and it appears the time has finally come…
The big problem is: they are tied to Vick, as Reid pilfered his own “heir apparent” to keep Vick, so the future is quite unclear… I fear a loooong fal for the Eagles…
At any rate, it looks like Reid may have been right about Kolb, though he certainly does have the worst clock management skills in the entire league. At least he usually wins. I’d take that, though I’m a Redskins fan, I’ll take anything.
