Andy Serkis (Gollum in LOTR) for Oscar?

Unlike the Academy  I don’t form an opinion for something I haven’t seen. But, assuming that his acting is very good, could you see a CGI character getting a nomination/win?

I mean, he’s not just doing the voice*, and the Academy does like characters with mental problems…

*Tho I don’t see why somone just doing a voice shouldn’t be considered

Well, it would be a first, but as long as he’s wearing a “waldo” kind of suit so that not only Gollum’s voice but his movements are transmitted from Serkis, I don’t see why not. I’ve heard nothing but good things about his performance, and I’m dying to see it.

It would be similar to the buzz back when that Robin Williams might be nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his voice work on Aladdin.

I doubt it’ll happen, but I don’t see why it shouldn’t if he is really good enough.

And would his acceptance speech include:

This Oscar® is very precious to me
or
It’s mine! mine! my preciouseses

?

Sounds good. Suggest it to him.

What has it got in it’s envelopeses?

Well, his performance is what I’m looking forward to the most about The Two Towers, and the motion & expression capture do make his contribution significantly more than voice work. Ruling him out because the performance is enhanced by technology and other artists doesn’t make any more sense than refusing to consider actors who work under heavy makeup. No biggee.

However, related to an item on the same page, I gotta say-- Robert Carlyle as HITLER? I’m having a hard time picturing it-- but he’s certainly a gifted actor. Should be interesting.

Robert Carlyle is PERFECT for Hitler, though I’d never heard of this before. He looks a lot like him when you think about it.
