Anecdote Told by "Michael Landon"

The quotes are there because I actually am referring to the biopic of a few years back, starring John Schneider as Landon.

“Landon” is on location for “Little House,” and actors and crew are on a break and he is telling a story that ends something like this:

LANDON: The cameras are rolling and we’re all standing by the pond waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Finally we see his head break the surface of the water. . . and he is completely bald, his hairpiece is gone, and what’s more. . . HIS EYEBROWS are gone too!

All laugh, and Landon has a scene with his whiny anemic-looking namesake.

To whom was Landon referring? My first thought was that it was a dig at Pernell Roberts. Landon and Roberts never particularly liked each other, and although Roberts wore a hairpiece as Adam, by the time this scene was set (1974/75 or so) Roberts had long since stopped wearing one, so it doesn’t seem likely that Landon would get any laughs for revealing his baldness.

Plus he says the guy had no eyebrows.

Lorne Greene also wore a rug.

Or is it just a bit made of wholecloth simply to illustrate the good rapport that Landon enjoyed with his cast and crew?

Sir Rhosis

I’ve heard him (Michael Landon) tell a similar anecdote on Johnny Carson, except the the person in question was in the water with the hairpiece floating on top the water. And the only thing you saw was Lorren Green’s hand searching for the piece and then when finally finding it, placed it on his head as he came out of the water.

It was a really funny moment. Carson, and the audience was hysterical.

Must be it, thanks.

Of course the fact Landon told it didn’t necessarily mean it was so, like the rabbit story he also told on JohnnY Carson.
