Angel - 03/19/03 - Orpheus (spoilers)

Arg, I got slammed by CNN too. What the hell? If I want the latest war non-updates there are three fricking cable channels and several other networks with vastly superior coverage. They couldn’t wait just a minute or two to break the amazing news that reporters are very sad that the big attack didn’t happen and they have nothing to report. I feel SO sorry for them and their lack of breaking news coverage, but please, they can beg for my sympathy on an actual news channel.

Anyway, we’re finally through the eps I was spoiled for (wasn’t spoiled for the seocnd half of this though). I can finally speculate without feeling cheap!

I think it’s pretty darn obvious at this point that the baby is possessing Cordy (last week: “I’m somewhere warm and soft” and this week “if only it was a few weeks later!”). I’m also less and less thinking Cordy was evil prior to the baby. Remember how she dreamed of the Beast prior to his arrival? She seemed genuinely scared… and there was no one there (in her mind) to fake it too. Of course, that still leaves her very odd screwing of Conor to explain.

Apos - sure. But why all that amnesia crap at the beginning of the season. I’m still leaning towards Not!Cordy or Possesed!Cordy coming back.

You could be right, but when Cordy said this she was sitting in bed. Beds are generally warm and soft.

Hey, Gaspode, would you mind dropping me an e-mail? There’s something I need to ask you. My address should be in my profile.

done.

Guess I was an almost lucky one after all. They only cut in on the last three minutes for me.

Still pissed me off like you-know anyway.

Like they couldn’t wait - all they said was there were explosions of some sort. Jeez.

Woo Hoo, a amazing episode and no interruptions! I may have to bring a dozen Krispy Kremes by the local WB outlet.

Plus Conner got the beatdown again!

I would just like to say again, I really liked this episode.

Cross-overs, flashbacks, bad-ass Slayer, multiple threads, lots of great surprises for the non-spoiled (thanks Spoiler Box users!!!), its like WB Buffy again.

I especially liked Willow’s reaction to Conner.

My score 10/10.

Ok, I got Mahaloth’s description of the ending (thanks!), can anybody add a bit more detail to it? I also got cut off at the “It just proves you’re…” line, and still am not exactly sure where things went and why. Just one more reason to hate the news.

Ditto, Cheesesteak. And thanks for reminding me, elf6c -

Willow referring to Connor as “androgynous” was beautiful. God I hate that kid. He does nothing at all for the show.

Am I reading too much into this or is there serious talk about Angel getting cancelled??

From what I hear, Maetros, it’s not certain that the show will get a new contract for next season. There are reasons why thay want to continue. Something about syndication and having 100 episodes to offer, since it’s through syndication they make money.

[speculation]
Also, the way the show has picked up during this season, I get a feeling that the Mutant Enemy crew know thay have to do a really good job, to keep the show on the air.
[/speculation]

I’ve also read that JW plans every season as if it will be the last, just in case. So far, there is no official news about it continuing or not.

Faith to Connor- “Break off a switch, Son- there’s gonna be a whuppin’.”

and then almost everything Willow said.

Thanks, Mahaloth, for the spoilers. It was nice to see Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof onscreen together again; I could be crazy but I thought I saw a bit of their real-life chemistry sneaking into their conversations. I’m starting to consider Wesley as the show’s Spike, seeing as how he’s getting the stuffing beaten out of him at least every episode. But he does look good with a bruise. What was Cordy’s delivery of that last line like? I can’t tell from the description, but it sounds ominous.

I didn’t think I’d say this, but I’m starting to feel bad for Connor. He’s everybody’s dupe. Holtz whisked him off to a demon dimension as a baby to exact revenge on Angel, in essence making him the sullen young man he is today. He knows there’s something strange about him, what with being the son of two vampires and all. His (presumably) first sexual experience is nothing but end-of-the-world sex (or is it? I am unspoiled but sense a master plan at work), his first love rejects him because she’s in love with his father, and now she’s pregnant with his baby. And she’s trying to get him to kill his father. I thought I had a rough time of it as a teenager.

I liked the flashbacks a lot, especially the diner scene. Although it now disturbs me a little Angel thought to sing “Mandy” at Caritas when Lorne read him (for the first time). I thought the Angel/Angelus fight in the alley was well done, too. And it’s amazing how when Faith hits someone it actually looks like she’s hitting them, as opposed to Buffy’s spaghetti punches.

One correction to Maholoth’s summary, it was Faith and Willow, not Angel and Willow, who are headed to Sunnydale.

Good episode, nice pacing, with a good finish, then once final twist. Wes is getting more dark, everyone is exploring their dark sides and all hope to come back.

The chemistry between Willow and Fred was OK, nothing special. I would have loved to see Gunn’s reaction. Kinda bummed to see Gunn suckerpunched by Conner. Gunn gets beat up a lot on this show. Still, I liked his chemistry with Faith, very different from him and Fred.

Angelus had some good lines in the dream sequence. I think the “it’s not about you” line was to tell Angelus that the dream was for Faith’s benefit, not him. She was learning about redemption and becoming a champion. There’s no rest for her, she must constantly work to make the world a better place.

Badass Willow is getting to easy to call upon to fix a plot point. They’ll need to keep an eye on that or it’ll become overused. Conner needs to wake up a bit, his character is being portrayed as way to naive to live. I understand that he’s protective of his child, but you’d think that even he would hear warning bells.

Very good episode, 9/10.

You make a good argument, Apos.
It’s possible that if it is the baby who is possessing Cordy, it directed her to screw Connor to cover its tracks regarding who its real father is.

Here is a transcript of the last 5 minutes of the show.

Well, if the baby is Connor’s how could it direct her to screw Connor? If Cordy wasn’t evil to begin with, then it isn’t likely she made a baby with the Beast.

We’re definately missing stuff here.

Thank you, Mahaloth!

I noticed that, too. Somehow the mood seemed a little steamy for a conversation between two old buddies. Not that I object, mind you.

What a great ep! As far as I’m concerned, Willow and Faith can bypass Sunnydale and head off into their own spin-off, letting the rest of the Scooby gang get swallowed by the First Evil. (Okay, maybe they could swing by and pick up Xander.)

Mahaloth, I followed the link, but found only an intro to a transcript. Below the intro was mucho blank white space. Was I overlooking something I should have clicked?
