Angel - 05/07/03 - Home - Season Finale (spoilers)

Damn my local UPN affiliate to hell. And not in a good way. Apparently they are unaware of the effect that inclement weather can have on television transmissions and have chosen to invest in broadcast equipment powered by three AA batteries. I get up this morning to watch my tape and it’s an hour of solid static. If anyone would be willing to send me a tape or point me toward someplace I can view the ep I would be most grateful and more than happy to reimburse shipping. Don’t make me beg. Email me please!

Stunning episode from beginning to end. 10/10. It was nice to see the twists, turns and amazing writing and direction continue through to the end. I have to admit the ending was very touching- they found a way to resolve the Connor situation in a positive manner.

Overall, what a season. Probably better then even the best of Buffy’s seasons, even 3-4. The only question is how can they top it? Although the W&H set-up leaves tons of room for interesting plot developments.

Hurry up and renew the show WB!

I loved it. This is what TV should be. It was a deft blend of the funny, the creepy, and the cool. And Angel turned out to be such a good dad. Although Conner ws growing on me, I think they resolved his presence (now absence) in a tremendously satisfying way.

I thought he looked familiar! I just read a rumor on another messageboard that Knox is supposed to be the psych student’s twin brother, and that they’re considering him for a more-or-less regular spot on the show.

I will second Otto’s plea for a tape, or video online to watch. Last night was the final I hope night of moving my mom, and it took longer than I thought. I got home in time to see everything from the sports store till the end. But of course, none of it made any sense whatsoever. I wish other stations would do like the Sci Fi channel, and repeat their prime time shows later at night. Like 1am or something. Give people that missed it a chance to see it again. I mean as it is, I won’t be able to see this episode until probably right before he season opener next year…sob!

Fantastic resolution to a fantastic season. I thought that the Beast had put an end to W&H, and was glad because they were getting a bit tiresome. This, though, puts a whole new spin and new life into W&H, I can’t wait to see what they do with it.

I don’t QUITE get why W&H is giving the LA office to Angel, I suspect it’s just another one of their schemes, but I’m willing to roll with it.

I’m glad to see the way they resolved Conner, it sure feels like a “Dawn” type of thing. Reality changes to remove Conner from the Fang Gang, just as it changed to fit Dawn into the Scoobies. I doubt the issue will come up again.

Does anyone know the name of the actor who played the ex-Watcher that showed Wesley around? I know I’ve seen him before.

Daniel I thought the limo was just cutting the corner short as it went around the bend, and then merged into the right lane as it went along.

The W&H party line is this: Angel’s won. He has shown that he’ll always win and that they can’t beat him. So they give up on LA. As a sign of that surrender they are handing over a major asset to them. It is a mix of if you can’t beat 'em join 'em and appeasing an enemy.

It seems fishy but that’s what is being claimed.

I think it’s an absolute power thing. This scares me. We may see FG: Corporate Edition. We may see Fred with a phaser and an AK, Westley with the magic library, Gunn with the Eye of the Panther, and Angel with a ready supply of McGuffins.

But, who are they going to fight? They tore lots of demons the hell up while Jasmified, and presumably so did the horde of Jasmine’s followers. Picture the moral quandries if the FG start going after human criminals as if they were demons.

But, I am afraid that W&H will be the black magic of Angel season 4. When they can just get W&H to send in a SWAT team with ebony buckshot, why do they need to get their hands dirty?

Re W&H motivations: First, power may corrupt where trickery failed. Next, they already won. Angel and co. prevented world peace. There will be evil and misery and suffering forevermore in the Angelverse. Given the high turnover rate of W&H employees at W&H: California, it probably makes sense to cut their losses and hope that the FG shoot each other in the foot with their new power.

Did anyone else enjoy the irony of Connor’s new situation? In Connor’s pity speech to Angel in front of the hostages, he says over and over that everything about his life and relationships has been a lie. So Angel arranged to make his son happy… with yet another lie. Perfect.

Assuming there is a fifth season, my guess is that the FG will find themselves knee-deep in corruption before the season is half done. There is NO WAY that the Senior Partners have actually ceded power to Angel Investigations. In a sense, the FG members already have been corrupted by memory loss, even if it was at Angel’s behest. The questions is, how long will it take them to a) realize that they are cogs in a larger Machine of Evil ™ and b) figure out how to both extricate themselves and defeat the Machine of Evil ™.

my question is: how is angel so good while buffy is so bad?

joss really gave up on the scoobies…

Apos:

To anyone familiar with White Wolf World of Darkness: Gunn’s gonna be a Bastet!

That would be sooooo awesome.

10/10

I loved this episode. This season of Angel was one of the best seasons of a television show I’ve ever seen. Amazing!

Yes, now that Vincent is gone, it looks like they can sign one more person to be a regular.

I liked Vincent. Sad to see him go, actually.

Hey Otto, check yo’ email.

I giggled for about ten solid minutes when Connor said, “I’m dead too”. To see why, watch these (it’s in the third one):

I’m pretty sure Connor isn’t out of the show, at least not permanently. He’s got his pick of colleges now; anyone want to bet that he’ll pick UCLA? Maybe get an internship with Wolfram and Hart? At the very least, he’ll get a multi-episode guest star at some point next season.

As for the episode over all, 'effin fantastic. I can’t wait to find out what’s up with Gunn. If he’s somehow been granted superpowers by the panther, I wonder if he’s going to end up as one of the big bads next season.

Good call about Connor, Miller.

I don’t follow other forums, when it comes to tv shows. Even though it might not seem so, judging from my rambling in the Buffy and Angel threads, TV is not very important in my life. If I have nothing better to do, I’ll watch, if there’s something remotely interesting. Most of the time I have better things to do.

So anybody of you guys have an idea what reactions to Angel in general are? I get a feeling that we here at the SDMB is a bit more picky, when it comes to TV. I mean, I never see threads here about Charmed, Sabrina or Boston Public.
Is there a buzz outside the group of hardcore fanboys/girls?

Gaspode there has been a flurry of newspaper coverage this past week about Angel and Buffy because of the definite end of the latter and the possible end of the prior.

I had a co-worker come to me today and tell me (he knows I’m a fan and has in the past put the shows down as juvenile) that he misunderstood the shows and considering what the press has been saying lately he kind of wishes he had caught some of them.

Specifically, both USA Today and the Chicago Tribune TV critics have said good things about the shows and their writers. Angel came out on top of the USA Today’s poll of shows in danger that people most want to see renewed.

DanielWithrow:

I’m sure we’ll see Knox again, but I find it really unlikely they’ll make him the brother of the psych student.

For one thing, that would mean Knox is only around 20, and not a college graduate unless he was quite the prodigy.

For another, ME reuses guest stars all the time and rarely if ever feels the need to create a connection between their various characters.

For example, we’ve seen Carlos Jacott on Buffy, Angel and Firefly, in all cases playing characters who had nothing to do with each other.

Two things: First, he works for Wolfram and Hart, interdimensional power brokers with nearly infinite resources. I doubt they hire anyone who isn’t a prodigy. Hell, the janitors probably have advanced degrees.

Second: My mom started college the same day her youngest sister started kindergarten. There can be a huge age difference between siblings.

Although over all, I agree that it’s unlikely that they’ll establish any sort of connection between the two characters. Odds are, Joss just took a shine to the actor and wanted to give him more work, and that’s all there is to it.
