Angel 11-19-03 "Destiny"

Hell, yeah!

Lindsay’s back!

Since I don’t normally start these threads (I couldn’t find another), I put a spoiler box up just in case it hasn’t aired everywhere yet. For those who know better, please feel free to skip the spoiler tags.

Great episode. Two in a row, in fact. I like how this season is shaping up now that an arc has been introduced (or been made blaringly evident to some of us).

Now I’m a bit sad that a new one won’t show next week.

Finally. FINALLY. It’s the kickass show that I remember. From the Numero Cinco episode to this one, things just got incrementally better. I’ll just forget about the first couple episodes (did anything important happen in them? anything? ok.)
I audibly gasped when I saw Lindsay at the end. Did he get a new hand? I didn’t notice, and I don’t remember what happened to his hand (hey, it’s been a couple of seasons.) I want him and Angel to fight and exchange intense looks and tape things to the back of each other’s cars.

Lindsay!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

In the Season 2 episode, Dead End, Lindsay gets a new hand from a guy from whom Wolfram & Hart had been harvesting body parts. In the end the ravaged guy dies as a mercy killing, but Lindsay leaves town with the new hand in place.

He was always fun. Auntie Em has been watching Season 2 on DVD, so I’ve seen Lindsay and thought that, heck, it’d be cool if he came back. Now he’s all tattooed evil.

:)
Oh yeah: I keep misspelling the name. It’s Lindsey.

That was a great episode!

The flashbacks were wonderful, it’s great to see the writers giving us more reasons for Spike and Angel’s animosity. The Spike/Angel fight was amazing, usually they bore me, but this one really kept my interest. And Lindsey’s back, how cool is that? I am a very happy camper. Very happy.

And Wesley better not be gone long! Seeing him be bad ass last week was very ahem satisfying.

I was trying to figure out who it was in the bed. I couldn’t think of a known character who wouldn’t be lame (a fang game member, Wesley especially) and someone new would have made the whole thing pointless. But good god damn did I not see that comming.

Even better however is that I really am interested in what he’s up to. It isn’t a trick to distract but added niftiness. What exactly is he up to? What is he pulling on the fang gang and the senior partners? How is Eve playing both sides for him? What the fuck is up with the tats and the matching appartment decorations?

Must have answers.

I’m guessing the tattooes on his body and in his room were to hide his presence from any magic, to block a locator spell for example.

Awesome! Loved it, loved every minute. Especially loved the guy with the ax in the background.

The Tim: My best guess (and secret fantasy) was that it’d be Drucilla.

“Little bit of both.” Har!

I got twenty that says they give him super strength, too.

I’d guess the tats (may just be paint) and decor are mystical wards. They probably keep out the prying eyes at W&H (including the Senior Partners).

So let’s see: [ul]
[li]The Senior Partners are trying to seduce Angel (and he’s in major danger of burning out), and Eve is their main contact. They may have deeper plans than merely turning him.[/li][li]The Shanshu prophercy is tearing apart creation until it can be resolved. The Senior partners don’t want this.[/li][li]Someone sent Spike’s amulet and box o’ corporeality to W&H. But who?[/li][li]Someone is fighting a war against evil (W&H included) with cyborg ninjas. They possibly have Watcher files.[/li][li]Eve is working with Angel’s old nemesis. They seem to be encouraging the chaos of the Shansu uncertainty.[/li][li]Gunn works the conduit. Plus, he has stuff in his head implanted by W&H.[/li][li]Hermanos! The devil has built a robot![/li][/ul]

I miss anything? Damn, that’s good television.

So:

the guitar strummer is the big bad.

I hope his music skills developed Orphic powers,
rendering Fred helpless.
The other guys then have to work without her. Uh-oh!

Nah, he’s not the big bad. In the Jossverse, this is about the time the little bad shows up. That doesn’t really answer any questions, does it.
Lindsey was always a very good and believable bad guy, and I’m very happy he’s back. I like when the bad guys are more rounded personalities, as it was with the major. Also, Christian Kane is a good actor with a lot of charisma.

All in all, a very good episode. It’s always nice to see Dru, the wire fighting was very good, as good as most movies.

Wasn’t the sex a bit graphic for tv? Not that I mind, it’s just that I seldom, if ever, see thrusting hips on American made tv.

And where’s Wes? And Why?

The show’s grabbed my attention again. But when is the next ep?

I did not watch the first couple of seasons of Angel. Can anyone give me a little background on Lindsey? And what were the circumstances surrounding this character’s departure from the show before?

Lindsey was a morally ambigous lawyer at Wolfram&Hart. IIRC he went after Angel with a sledgehammer once, in pure jealous rage. http://www.buffyworld.com/ has good, brief recaps of all previous seasons.

I am watching the season 2 DVD’s at the same time as this season- so last night’s reveal was especially sweet for me.

Another solid episode. Nice work with Eve for once. Also liked how they explaned why Spike won (which had had never been able to do against Angel and shouldn’t have been able to now) it continues the major theme of the season nicely.

“It’s Mountain Dew!”

Heh!

BTW- I am thinking cloaking spells to hide from the senior partners, who must not be pleased that someone is meddling in their plans.

Lindsey certainly has a grudge against W&H, and probably Angel as well- so it is hard to determine what his goal may be.

…And in the finale of Season 1, Angel cut off Lindsay’s hand! For me, it was just one of those gasp-worthy moments, much like last night. That’s why I enjoy this show so much–it can almost always surprise me. That’s intelligent writing for you, “kids.” (whoops, sorry; slipped into Eve mode there for a minute. did anyone notice she said that about 18 times last night?)

And, as an unabashed whiner about the presence of Spike this season, I have to say that I actually liked him last night. Usually, the flashbacks kind of bug me (David Boreanaz’s accent really hasn’t gotten any better), but last night, I kind of felt for the poor guy when he found Angel and Drusilla.

And they mentioned Buffy! They mentioned Buffy!

BTW, The Gaspode, I don’t know when the next episode is, either. Some people on TWoP are saying that Angel’s going on hiatus till January–have you heard anything about that?

…yeah, and I spelled Lindsey’s name wrong again. Sorry about that.

I can’t wait until Lindsey and Lilah square off. I hope they do.

… or maybe they’re in league with one another!

“Hiatus” suggests that it’s a deliberate yanking to test something else because “Angel” isn’t doing well. Which I don’t think is what’s going on. A lot of shows don’t run new episodes between Thanksgiving and New Years because they want to fill the slot with sports, holiday programming, and other seasonal things.

Put another way, they’ve already shown eight new episodes out of a 22 episode season. They’ll most likely run new episodes for each week of the February and May sweeps, which is an additional eight. That leaves them six episodes to be allocated, and they’ll probably save those for January and April (to lead into sweeps).

Lilah’s dead, SkipMagic. You need to move on.

I’m very interested to see where they go with this, because at the end of Season 2 (which I also just saw on DVD) Lindsey and Angel had achieved a rapprochement of sorts. Last night, Eve’s dialogue implied Lindsey would have been happy to learn Angel was dead.

Could this all just be about the “Cops Suck” sign on the back of his truck?

Also, Sirk was a former Watcher, so it would make sense if he’s tied in with the cyber-ninjas and Wesley’s fake Dad, so that would also tie the cyber-ninjas to the Eve/Lindsey plot.

It’s all coming together, maybe.
