Ok animal lovers you have 15 minutes - at least on the east coast - to tune into Animal Planet to see what some scientists think animals will evolve into 200 million years from now. Hurry! Hurry! Hurry…
OOOOO I can’t wait!!!

“Snowstalker”, “Gannet Whale”
Cool show for entertainment purposes but I didn’t like how one of the first lines was “This is not fantasy. This is a future predicted by scientists!” Yea. I’m sure they know all of the variables that are going to occur in the next 200 million years.
So far, we’ve had Snowstalkers (giant wolverines), Gannet-Whales (giant flightless birds) and Shagrats (giant rodents).
Of these, I’d say the Gannet whales are the most improbable. I don’t see the front limbs of birds being re-evolved into weight-bearing limbs.
“GIANT KILLER BATS!!!” This just keeps getting better and better…not fantasy indeed.
GIANT BATS no uh, thats Death Glider.
BUHAAHAHAHA!!! this is fun to watch. I have my doubts as well.
That’s Deathgleaner to you…
And again with the mutant birds (spinks)… The motions of bird forelimbs are too restricted, too specialized for flight motions, to “revert” to regular limbs again.
Death Gleaner, and was it just me or did their “4 foot” wingspan look a little more like 15 feet?
oops. Gleaner.
Sweet, looks like we’re getting closer and closer to dinosaurs. AGAIN
Check out that carakiller…
That’s a third example of what D’s F thinks is pretty improbable. Who were the scientists that did this program? I wish they would explain the how’s and why’s of these animals.

Here’s a relavent website for this show:
OK thats it, a jellyfish the size of a small island?
Looks like we’re about to have turtles the size of small islands coming up…
Nah, it’s the landwalking several ton squids I’m interested in…
Showing all these animals without telling us how they came to these conclusions is pointless. It is fantasy. I think this show was a really good idea that was poorly executed.
Cisco -I don’t know if this helps, but you can check out some of the ideas here:
http://animal.discovery.com/convergence/futureiswild/animals/animals.html
Click on the 5, 100, or 200 million years to see the animals (it’s toward the top left).
Also, here’s their forum to discuss the creatures:

It supposedly has “experts” to answer questions.
I really hate mentioning other forum’s, it makes me feel icky.
I think it’s a neat show, I don’t know how much stock I put into it, I guess I’ll have to wait and see…
What’s that? I won’t live forever…Where’d you get that idea?

Whoa, that never would go through earlier so I tried it again just now and it was already up. Sorry 'bout that.
Shagrats? That sounds like something Austin Powers would say.
Work it, baby, yeah! You naughty little shagrat!
My favorite was Flish!
FLISH!!!
Ahahaha!! This was supposed to be serious science?
Sounds like something that would be on late night TV with Ron Popeil.
Seeing all those Flish made me hungry. I’m going to Long John Silvers.
I LOVED the sentient octopi, flipping merrily from tree to tree. The implication that these creatures would rise up and rule the earth was great. Once thy gain communication skills, mothers will no longer be able to snap, “Look! I’ve only got TWO hands!”
I did think that the explanation that humans have simply packed up and moved to another planet was a bit lame. Why not go whole hog and say that humans have gone extinct? (Which is the most likely of outcomes, given our bombs and germs.)
