I attended a Panel at NY Comic Con yesterday with Bruce Timm and the guy who wrote the recent Wonder Woman animated movie. They talked about upcoming projects:
In a month or so they are releasing a DVD of shorts one of which is a story where Superman and Captain Marvel team up against Black Adam. It also serves as a Captain Marvel Origin Story. Also on the disk were other short but the only one I remember was Jonah Hex. They showed clips of it and it looked good. A sort of different type of animation style. Kind of anime but not the Big-Eye Voltron kind, that other kind that I have seen before but can’t think of an example.
EDIT: To clarify, the clips they showed were the Superman Captain marvel short.
In February or March they are releasing All Star Superman which condenses a recent comic series into a full length movie. They showed several clips of this as well. It looks good. Very old school Superman. No darkness and a return to as Bruce put it “a little of his goofiness but not played for camp.” As an example:
In one clip, Superman flys into the Sun to rescue astronauts whose ship was attacked by a bobby trap set by Lex Luthor. And in another clip, Superman flies Lois Lane to the Moon without anyone in a space suit to give her a kiss. It all sounds corny but it was well done and exciting.
Superman’s voice is the guy who plays Terry hatcher’s husband on Desperate Housewives. Christina Hendricks is Lois Lane and I don’t remember who is Lex but it isn’t Clancy Brown.
The also mentioned that in late 2011 they are coming out with Batman: Year One which I loved as a comic and am really looking forward to.
I also could have sworn he mentioned the title of a new Green Lantern animated movie but he just kind of mentioned it and didn’t elaborate. I also know there is a GL animated series coming because there is a panel onxthat today I won’t be able to make.
