Are any new Superman movies planned?

Just curious. Anything in the works?

Yup

Yes. Man of Steel by Zack (Watchmen) Snyder comes out next year. Henry Cavill plays Superman, Amy Adams is Lois, and Laurence Fishburne is Perry White. In this movie, his costume matches the “New 52” look in the comics (i.e. no red trunks).

It looks pretty dire, but that is only from very indistinct photographs and “spoiler” sites, and my general dislike of anything Zack Snyder has made so far.

Hell, I like Zack Snyder’s work and I don’t have high hopes for this flick either.

I wish they wouldn’t fuck with Superman’s costume, fachrissake. I know they changed it in the comics, but they had the look just right with Christopher Reeve. He looked like the Curt Swan Superman. Like Jim Croce said, “You don’t tug on Superman’s cape.”

Oh, and yeah,

  • obligatory cane wave and something about lawns and the desire for hooligans to vacate said acreage.

On the one hand, I disagree. I think the original Superman and Batman garb were based on 1920s fashions, and they ought to update with each new iteration.

On the other hand, Superman’s costume is so iconic, that it’s too late to dick around with it now, just leave it as is forever more.

Martha Kent is going to be sexy :dubious::D:eek:
eta that changing in the phone booth was iconic too, but it had to go.

Couldn’t they have him change quickly in a Verizon store?

Zack Snyder will likely give us a competent and faithful Superman movie as he did with the source material for Watchmen and 300. Seriously, even if you hated 300, it was damn close to the graphic novel. Now Man of Steel is nothing to get hyped over, but at this point, “competent” is a significant upgrade from the morose, stalker-ish, deadbeat dad Superman Singer aborted onto the big screen in 06. A solid, reliable Superman movie, one in which he actually punches something, is just what WB needs to set up a new Supes franchise. They need the Iron Man of Superman movies much more than a shot at the Citizen Kane of Superman movies.

No, the restroom is for customers only.

Agreed. The first two Superman movies (well…the first two of the Christopher Reeve movies,) were well made, especially if you watch the Richard Donnor cut of Superman II. Well acted, written, and directed, bit obviously limited by the special effects of the time, and there are still some parts that are just too silly or groan-worthy (icecream cone in the face, anyone?)

So when Superman Returns came out, I was excited that we could get something with a decent story, AND some cool action bits…instead we got neither. I don’t think Superman punched a single thing. :frowning:

Snyder’s style works well in over-the-top action sequences. I really, really want to see a cool, decent-length fight between Supes and some foe who can go punch-for-punch with him. Darkseid, Doomsday, Brainiac (in some iterations he’s in a super-powered robot suit, yes?)

As much as I’d like to hear “Son of Jor-El…kneel before ZOD!” on-screen again, they shouldn’t re-has Zod or any other Kryptonian plot. I hope they went with something original (I haven’t been keeping up to date on it, so I don’t even know if they’ve announced who the villain will be.)

The big problem, is can Snyder also deliver a decent story? Probably not…but eh, whatever…as long as the final “fight” isn’t Superman vs. an island, I’ll probably be happy with the movie.

Edit: And I just looked at the cast list on IMDB to see who the villain was…fuck…:frowning:

In my humble opinion, the airplane rescue scene in Superman Returns was about as excellent an action scene as has ever been filmed. The scene standing in front of the gatling gun was reasonably cool too. But I will readily concede, Supes did very little punching and a whole lot of lifting stuff which got pretty old pretty fast.

I’m still not sure what to make of the upcoming movie. From the couple shots I’ve seen, I absolutely hate the new outfit. Incredibly lame. If the colours I’m seeing also hint at the mood of the film, it looks like Snyder is aiming for a darker, moodier Superman movie, also what I would consider a mistake. On the other hand, as noted upthread, Snyder is pretty solid at being very faithful to the comic book material. So who knows? Maybe it won’t be a total disaster?

You should write a letter to Bryan Singer. It could start, “Thank you sir! May I have another?”
