Anime-Tank Police

I remember seeing an Anime a while ago, a story in 4 parts that invovled a futuristic police force that drove tanks around(and wrecked the city a lot as well). Their enemies included a rather rich guy, two catgirls, and a cyborg-like brusier who escaped from a lab. I know it was called “Tank Police”, but I only remember seeing 4 episodes(2 parts).

Where there ever any more made? It seemed to have an interesting background story of apparently a biological(possibly nuclear?) war had occured years before and the hospital was looking at people were weren’t sick at all from the diease.

Sounds like Appleseed to me.

Masamune Shirow’s New Dominion Tank Police.

“Kobe Japan - 2100 AD : Terrorism runs rampant in the biochemical ruins of Newport City. An elite tank squad is established in an effort to put an end to the chaos. Led by Leona and her tank Bonaparte, the Tank Police strike back using any means possible to save the city. Thrown into the mix are the mercenary Puma sisters, who will side with anyone willing to pay their price.”

There were originally 6 episodes, then they made a smaller number of further adventures. Quite good. You could probably order the videos from Manga Entertainment.

Funny you should metion Appleseed, Miller; Masamune Shirow is the creator of both it and Dominion - as well as Black Magic/M-66 and Ghost in the Shell.

In Appleseed, the police run around in armoured suits called “Landmates” instead of tanks, although there is a scene in the Dominion manga where the Puma Sisters have commandeered battlesuits to engage Newport’s vaunted Tank Police.

There are two Dominion series out there. I have the first four-parter on tape, and while I thought it was OK, I much preferred the manga.

Shirow’s works are so complex that it’s really difficult to translate the properly to film. For example, the whole length of M-66 is based on just episode from the original Black Magic storyline. By the same token, the Appleseed anime pales in comparison to its source material, being neither long enough nor deep enough to convey just how nifty Briareos and Deunan’s world is!
