Ann Coulter: Douchebag

Gee, Scylla, thanks so much for personifying the weasel-y behavior I was asking about.

Hmmm, “evidence.” Let’s see.

The Master speaks:

http://www.straightdope.com/columns/030411.html

A partisan site, by all means, but loaded with documents and links to respected newspapers like the Chicago Sun-Times and Tribune, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, and the New York Times, all discussing the “evidence:”

http://www.awolbush.com/

And, about those “charges” you claim “haven’t been made:”

“Dems reload AWOL Bush charge”

This took me all of two minutes to compile. What say you, Semantics Boy? This outta be a barrel of laughs.

How can I pass on a thread with the word douchebag in the title?
I don’t follow politics so please forgive a naive observation. I went to her web site to read the article in question and also found 3 pages a picutes of her. For a political commentator, isn’t that a little vain?

Ann Coulter: Defending the Republican Party from Vietnam Quadraplegics.

Scylla: Defending Ann Coulter from Ann Coulter.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I don’t ever want to be a Republican, because that means I’ll be associated with idiots like these.

From the title, I thought this thread was to Pit douchebags.

Actually, after being compared to Coulter, douchebags should pit her.

It is kinda unfair to douchebags to compare them to Coulter. Douchebags work to remove skankiness and stinkiness, whereas Coulter is doing pretty much the opposite to political discourse.

Does anyone else, based on the shitstorms the Republicans have thrown at Cleland both in unseating him from the Senate and since, think that Cleland on the bottom half of the Democratic ticket would make for a spectacular race?

Essvee:

Not to ignore you, but I’m having the discussion here:

[Jack Sparrow voice]That’s interestin’. Very interestin’.[/JSv]

It’d be a damn interesting choice, though I’m sure the ugliness already brewing would pale in comparison to what we’d see with a Kerry/Cleland ticket. Then you have 2 decorated Viet Vets you have to slime, instead of just one. And they didn’t just serve, they were In The Shit, if I remember right.

But the thing is that she’s lying about his injuries, making it seem like they were accidently self-inflicted, when they were not. She says Cleland dropped a grenade and was thus not heroic in losing his limbs. HE did not drop the grenade, ANOTHER SOLDIER did, making his action truly heroic.

Spectrum:

I think I addressed your point.

You may disagree with him – and, granted, this the Pit – but, speaking as a liberal, Scylla’s been nothing but reasonable and straightforward in this thread. Don’t be a jerk.

Well, no he hasn’t, not really. Responding to the use of the word “charges” as if it meant criminal charges was ridiculous and stupid, not at all reasonable or straightforward. A reasonable person would understand that people level charges at one another on a daily basis without the legal system being involved. A straightforward person would address the point that was made instead of hiding behind fakery.

I’d give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a misunderstanding. YMMV.

Really? An accident like that could happen to anybody anywhere? How many grenades fell near you today? How many do you think fell near Bush in 1970? Bush apparently flew sometimes, but couldn’t even keep that up. He was derelict in completing the requisite tasks. But that’s apparently okay with you, because his type of plane was obsolete.

I really cannot believe you. You have the temerity to equate the level of danger between the two? Do we even need to compute the odds ratio for death or dismemberment between those serving in Viet Nam and those occasionally flying over Texas? Seems to me he is in a far better position to judge who performed service and who did not.

Simple accident? Cluelessly picked it up? Injured in service to his country and that’s that? Fuck you, you prick. It is amazing how conservatives can go red in the face if one dares to speak ill of veterans, military men or the flag … until they find out that they are something other than conservative republicans. You are a worthless piece of shit.

Yes. The operative word is “like.” That means analagous to. We are talking about a freak unfortunate accident, not a result of combat.

I used a chainsaw today.

For all I know, grenades may have been a part of his training, but certainly Bush had other analogous risks. His plane could blow up. His wing man could hit him. He could have an engine failure. etc. etc. etc.

Flying jetfighters is a high risk activity.

And yet I’m true!

Yes.

Yes. Why don’t you do this. Why don’t you calcualate the fatality rate of all those who served in Vietnam and compare it to the fatality rate of fighter pilots and come back and tell us how they compare?

Yes. Apparently they were walking around in a noncombat situation, getting a beer according to Coulter, somebody dropped a grenade by accident. Clelland picked it up and nobody was aware that at some point the pin came out.

Simple accident.

Didn’t notice that the pin wasn’t in and that it was hissing, apparently.

Not at all. Only becomes an issue because he’s chosen to attack another’s service to his country from his stature as a wounded veteran.

Eat laser, you Andrornian swine.

You are an errand boy sent by grocery clerks to collect a bill.

Scylla, I guess I’ll post those links in your other thread, but i think it is fucking disingenous as hell to ask me for evidence, and then when I come back and post some, you inform me that you are discussing the matter in another thread, in essence refusing to answer me.

Does anyone else smell weasels?

We should be used to her type of ramblings.
After all, she is the Diogenes of the right.

Look.

Saying that it would be “fucking disingenuous” doesn’t make sense. How am I being naive or insincere?

I’m sorry you’ve decided to choose the interpretation you have concerning my post. Between the time I asked the question and you answered it with your cites, I started that other thread.

Seeing as we had a whole thread in GD I posted the link not to refuse to discuss it with you, but to invite you to that thread, rather than hijack this one.

I did it to be nice and include you, not to be mean or exclude you. Truly.

If you’re gonnna be like this, let’s not bother, ok?

According to Coulter? You can see where we might have a bit of trouble believing her as a source, right?
