I know, I know. We’ve discussed the stunning Ms. Coulter before. But I think this is the all time record breaker!
“They know that the American people support defending America, unlike them. Their real feelings are coming out as much as they can right now, which is that they’re desperately dying to provide aid and support to al-Qaeda.”
Quoted by Undernews, a web site/blog devoted to news from a somewhat lefty position. Actual source of quote and/or link not given.
“They know that the American people support defending America, unlike them. Their real feelings are coming out as much as they can right now, which is that they’re desperately dying to provide aid and support to al-Qaeda.”
Well, assuming it’s a real quote, it depends who “them” is. If she’s talking about Congressional Democrats, that’s pretty outrageous. If she’s talking about Iraqis, or the PLO, or somebody, I wouldn’t neccesarily agree with her, but the quote wouldn’t shock or disgust me.
Apparently, according to one source, she said this on an interview with WOR’s Ed Walsh. He then questioned it and she answered "“I’m only exaggerating slightly”. I don’t have conformation on the interview, though.
Coulter seems to enjoy exaggeration, especially during press interviews. I think her rhetorical strategy is to be so over the top and offensive that people have to pay attention to her, and likely that’s what happened here.
She probably wants to be sued. Then she could write about how her 1st amendment rights are being prohibited, which is what the “liberals” want to do to everyone.
She is a caricature, a scarecrow, the Marilyn Manson of the pundit world creating controversy for its own sake because she has nothing original or insightful to say. The truly frightening thing is that her book has been on the best seller list for such a long time. Granted, many people are just reading it for the comic relief value a’la the Weekly World News but many people think she knows what she’s talking about.
A while back, our local paper ran a letter to the editor from a lady who was cancelling her subscription because of the “liberal media” bias and whatnot. Her closing line?
“I’ll get the truth from Jeff Jacoby, Ann Coulter, and Rush!”
Look about halfway down, at the headline “Tom DeLay Slams Dems as Handwringers and Appeasers.”
It doesn’t have any context for the Coulter quote, though, and some of the articles seem to have a pro-democratic slant, even though I’d never heard of Newsmax before this.
I can confirm, however, that Ed Walsh is the host of the morning show on New York 710 WOR, and that he does have a show on Saturday mornings.
He’s a conservative writer for the Boston Globe Op-Ed pages. I wouldn’t classify him as being as bad at formulating logical and non-psychotic arguments Ann Coulter, although I’ve moved out of the area and haven’t been keeping up with his pieces. I never cared much for the majority of his analysis or opinions (sometimes he made some interesting points) but in the 7 or 8 years that I was reading his work on a daily basis, I never read anything as polemical as Ann Coulter’s stuff.
Thanks for the cite, **Captain Amazing **. Newsmax is very conservative, so they certainly aren’t trying to smear Coulter. Here’s the relevant portion:
Even if one agrees with DeLay, what Coulter said was outrageous. Her admission that she was “exaggerting slightly” doesn’t come close to curing the offensiveness.
