Copycat.
(Although your subject heading is wittier.)
The woman adds new meaning to the words idiot and demagogue. I’ve noted that her numerous statements, especially since 9/11, are so completely supportive of totalitarian goals they would make Stalin blush. But apparently there are a large number of conservatives who love this sort of thing. I did see some talk show where she and Geoff Figer (Dr. Kevorkian’s sometimes lawyer) took opposite sides. He wiped the floor up with her. I notice that she now advertises herself as “Constitutional Attorney”. I was under the impression that she was a former prosecutor, which would make her a criminal attorney (no snickers), and she seems to me to be far too busy to actually have a significant caseload.
David Brock dishes out a lot of dirt on her in his new book. Apparently she’s a sex-crazed alcoholic. BTW, does anyone have the David Brock book?
I got the chance to read it today, although I don’t own it. According to Brock, she is (was) a heavy smoker and wine drinker with questionable taste in men (Bob Guccione Jr.), but I wouldn’t go so far as to call that alcoholism or sex-crazed.
From what Brock wrote, however, she showed a LOT of antisemitism, often referring to “Those goddamned Jews” and worse. During Clinton’s presidency, she also pondered in a column whether or not it was time to assassinate him. THAT sent me reeling, even after everything I knew about her. Until I read this, I had just though of Ann as an emotional, spoiled brat who’d become unhinged with the death of her friend in 9/11. Now I realize that she was crazy all along.
If I could quickly hijack the thread, the book is a pretty good read. At times, David Brock’s political naivety rivals that of Kay Corleone, but he comes across as an honest, intelligent commentator who felt genuine guilt and remorse about his handling of Anita Hill. It’s a great book.
