Ann Coulter, you really aren't welcome here

Francois is a guy’s name.

I’m not sure she’s clever enough to combine a slam against “French people” and imply Canadians are all girly-like nancy boys called Francis but the potential is there. She’s a well paid nasty piece of work.

Seems perfectly clear to me, maybe you’re missing something.

I’ll make it simple for you.

Coulter’s organizers themselves cancelled, citing a “fear” of violence.

This does not mean that her talk was cancelled “due to threats of violence”
Can you not see the difference? Really?

Not enough bums in the seats, she never even headed to the venue. Watch the news coverage of the event cancellation, at the hall. It’s been purposely shot to look like lots of people are there, but there aren’t, look closer, many empty seats.

Two conservative groups, hoping to curry conservative females, hobbled together this three date speaking ‘tour’. The second American group stepped in because there wasn’t really any certainty she could fill the halls. They subsidized the ‘tour’ to further their political agenda. Hoping, one supposes, to find fundamentalist women to convert. (Here’s a clue, probably the largest fundamentalist, female populations are either French or Muslim, both of whom you routinely slag, might want to think about that.) This event teetered on not large enough, sales of tickets, to turn a profit.

Press coverage, to be sure, because a 1000 protesters came out, (don’t slag the French and then expect to speak in Ottawa dumbass!), an opportunity to slag the university for making her aware of differences in hate laws, and be generally vile.

Her people canceled the event, before she left for the venue. All the rest is spin.

Last night, again in my town, Robert Kennedy, Jr spoke to a capacity crowd, sponsored by the university, glowing reviews all around. I believe he made a joke about her, something along the lines of taking her advice about tightening our borders. AC now, officially, a tempest in a teapot.

But wasn’t he essentially preaching to the choir? Not much tolerance needed for that.

People espousing ideas that you aren’t supposed to hear are precisely the type of people Universities should be inviting to speak.

Where I live, home of prestigious university, (which routinely books speakers that draw protests and controversy, by the by), is a bastion of conservatism.

In fact, the Prime Minister is due to speak here today. To announce defense spending, I’m guessing, probably connected to the research park. They are keeping it a big secret!

Whoops, my bad, didn’t know that. In that case, nice to see that Kennedy got a warm reception.

I would bet you a shiny Canadian dollar that one of Ann’s people pulled that fire alarm (plausible deniability and all that). Tempest in a teapot, indeed.

I’m still thinking about heading over to her venue tonight to see what’s up.

I predict some pithy words about liberal hate mongers out “East” and how she’s so relieved to be among adults despite the the misguided fools outside the building. Canadian newspapers will then convulse over some stupid statement made by a smug Calgary conservative about people from welfare-land Canada.

I stand corrected. It was to announce that a Norwegian Defense Research group is moving to our town.

Someone I know said people were calling Coulter a racist bigot and that should be considered ‘hate speech.’

A bigot calling a black person a n… I can see being classified hate speech. Is calling a bigot a bigot hate speech?

If I was anywhere near Calgary, I’d be there.

Yeah, seeing the “highlights” of her visit here, I stand by my assessment - she’s not welcome here (by me, anyway). She had a better reception here than I would have liked, but not everyone was thrilled to have this shrill, horrible person visiting and spreading her brand of effluvia. If I understood what she was saying correctly, she seemed to be “complimenting” Alberta by calling it the 51st state. Ann, shut your ugly mouth. I’m ashamed to be Albertan whenever we pull some idiotic redneck stunt here (i.e. reinforcing the opinions of the rest of Canada).

After reading some of what she said, like “Canada is the least diverse country she’s ever seen”, I’ve come to realize she’s just a real-life troll.

One thing I don’t quite understand is why these psycho politicians from another country, like her and Palin, want to give speeches here. One thing they seem to be not understanding about free speech in Canada is that we really like our anti-hate laws. I’m thrilled people like Fred Phelps aren’t allowed in the country. I think you’d be hard pressed to find many Canadians who feel like they’re silenced by the government.

I look forward to laughing at her as she pursues her complaint with the Canadian Human Rights Commission.

Fucking lunatic.

Honestly, she simply should have been ignored. She’s not a serious person, in the sense of being someone that should be taken seriously. I really doubt she believes even 10 per cent of the stuff she spouts, and was unlikely to cross any serious boundaries. I get the reason behind standing up to someone you see as vile, and I share that opinion of her. She’s personally just about immune to criticism (I think the Muslim girl in London did manage to zing her effectively) and was only looking to stir up her own fading celebrity now that the US is tiring of her act.

Gosh, a great many Canadians DON’T like the hate speech law. I think it’s very poorly written and largely without useful purpose. It’s highly controversial. And even those who don’t oppose it… I mean, you really like it? You have favourite sections of the Criminal Code?

Can’t argue with this.

I have favorite criminal codes. The Texas Penal Code includes 11 distinct crimes which have the word “oyster” in their long titles.

You know, some folks just don’t get satire. Like GWB, the woman is an outstanding stand up comedienne.

By putting up with Obama’s attempt to poison their Prime Minister, the Canadians just left themselves open for further affronts of this sort.

Oh, is that what they’re calling it these days?
