Has anyone else watched this? It’s a more modern retelling, still set in the same period, but trying to interject 21st century sensibility, which can be jarring. And needless non-source material to make Anne’s life, both pre- and post-Avonlea pretty bleak. But it’s filmed beautifully.
Just started watching it. I’m liking it a lot! Very poignant moments in the first episode. This is not all sunshine and buttercups. AnnE is adorable and very spunky. Lou Grant: “I hate spunk.” But most of us like it.
I had read that the series was coming, but didn’t notice it until Netflix shoved it in my face this evening on my Roku. I didn’t read the spoilers in your post, but I’ll come back after I’ve watched a few more episodes.
About 20 minutes into the first episode, I sent a text to a friend I know would love the show and told her, “Anne will remind you of your daughter.” When her daughter was middle school up through most of high school she was a major league chatterbox. Never. Shut. Up. When she would go somewhere or finally go to bed, my friend, her husband, and their son would look at each other and heave a sigh of relief as they sank into the blessed silence.
I’ve started soooo many threads that died on the vine. I hate it when that happens.
I’m bumping this because Netflix just released the 3rd season of Anne with an “E”.
They seem to have departed wholly now from the source material. There are some things I still like about this, but Anne now seems like some cross between Nellie Bly and Greta Thunberg with some Jane Fonda thrown in.
I started watching this series when it first showed up on Netflix. I enjoyed it, although Anne took some getting used to. She can be quite annoying. I kind of lost interest in it at some point in the 2nd season. I keep seeing the 3rd season on my Netflix list and have thought more than once that I should get back into it but I have several other series I’m currently watching. Thank you, you have helped me make up my mind. I don’t think I could take a character that is already kind of annoying and then throw Thunberg and Fonda into the mix!
It’s a well-done series. Great acting, great scenery and costumes. It does evoke a bit of Doctor Quinn, Politically Correct Woman and is a bit hamfisted in how it handles social issues. Nonetheless, it’s a great story well portrayed. Too bad there won’t be a season 4.
