Turns out, surgery hurts! Heh. All went textbook-smoothly. I’m quite sore in the incision area–they had to cut through muscle to get to the bone–but overall both DeathLlama and I are both surprised at my mobility. I can walk, albeit stiffly, can go up and down stairs (carefully), and for the first time in months can actually lie on my left side. And heck, I’m able to sit and type this! Meds-wise, ibuprofen is all I need for pain, though the anesthesia had me sick to my stomach, as it always does. Thankfully that passed quickly, though the shot in my thigh to help ease the nausea sure hurt, and still hurts! I empathize with my infant son–who had 3 shots in his thighs Monday–all the more.
The old pain isn’t completely gone in the left leg, but it’s noticeably diminished…I still get weird little twitches in my left toes, but the hot burning pain that went through my hip and down the back of my leg is gone. HOORAY!
They wanted to keep me overnight, but the surgeon approved me going home yesterday evening, and that’s what I opted for (sooooooo glad I did, too…being alone in a hospital overnight is NOT my idea of a good time!). My mom and sister helped care for RuffLlama while DeathLlama attended to me, and the night went remarkably easily. Hubby gave RuffLlama his bath and bottle, and even put him to bed–hooray! No screaming for mommy. I’ve been able to nurse and cuddle my son, but my 17+lb heavyweight is too much for me to carry at the moment. He’s been pretty easy today, too, napping with me in bed and now in his swing.
My follow-up appointment is in two weeks. I should be fine to start school in the fall, though the surgeon said he’d write me a note to excuse me from work if I need it. I don’t think I will, and actually…I’ve been REALLY looking forward to working again!
In a moment, I’m going to brave a supervised shower…won’t that be fun!
Just wanted to let y’all know things went smoothly and I’m doing well. Only problem is I’m eager to get back in the saddle, both literally and figuratively! It’s hard for me to just lie around!
Thanks for all of your well-wishes, prayers, and support!
There is an annual Christmas horse show at my home facility–it’s my next show goal! Hopefully I’ll be able to make it, eh?
