When I go into various fora, some have “Announcements” and some of them have “Stickies” hugging the top of the page (I scroll past them 99% of the time).
Paused for a moment tonight and thought it looked a little tacky.
Could you put those at the bottom of the page instead. Or, make less of them hang around like in mpsims and atmb for example…or, just make a forum for announcements? It would make the board prettier. <wink> <wink>
Yeah, can you put them somewhere right out of the way (maybe in a parallel universe or something because it’s almost like you want me to read them, sheesh!. :rolleyes:
Well, if anything, THIS is the forum for announcements. And it used to perform that function under previous software regimes.
A lot of people never visited this forum, though. With newer software came more options. Now, we can place announcements board-wide, and sticky threads for forum-specific matters. The announcement is great, but it’ll only show the last announcement made. Sticky threads can help out there too, if you want to draw the attention to multiple things at the same time.
The reason all of them are at the top of the forums seems obvious. And no, that’s not gonna change.
Unless you’re like me and almost exclusively use the “View New Posts” feature. Then you never see the announcements or stickies.
…and then some people think they would look really tacky on the bottom of the page. Like me.
Just thinking having a little announcement button at the top of the page, or something less in your face would enhance the usability of the board in general. Seems like a simple issue to me. Then again, I don’t quite understand the reason for all these announcements about illegal posting and this and that everywhere. Why not put all that stuff in one place where people are incouraged to read it. Rather than having “these are the rules and liability” stuff headlined every time you open a forum page. I can understand it perfectly here in ATMB. But not across the whole board. That is all I’m saying.

Yeah, it’s called the FAQ. Only problem is, just try to get people to go read the FAQ. It’s all, “I have to wash my hair”, “I have to go to work”, “My mother won’t let me”.
So we put them up at the top, permanently, where nobody can claim they didn’t see the “these are the rules and liability” stuff.
They’re also nice for the occasional “Announcements That Aren’t From Zotti And Thus Aren’t Important Enough To Merit Being Put In The Official Announcement Spot But Which Nevertheless Need To Be Posted”, such as the “Don’t post World Cup Spoilers in thread titles” sticky in MPSIMS.
Us Oldbies love the stickies, Lil. Trust me, it’s a VBulletin Perk well worth keeping.
I’ve been around a while as well, and I differ my opinion. 
Can we get the newspapers to print the headlines on the middle pages? - they just make that front page look messy.
