All right, I’ll cut right to the chase. I manage the webpage for an online wrestling/roleplaying site (the USXWF). We’re still in the fledgling stages, having endured several false starts and hold-ups in the past several months.
Anyway, I’ve decided to stick with Tripod for the host (I’ve never had any problems with it for my own homepage, and go with what you know, right?). So the site’s going along, I keep adding new tidbits every day, the roleplay boards fill up pretty quickly… in short, things are going nicely.
But today: I go to the site. Nothing’s there. Just the blank menu, with the folders and the obligatory CGI Bin (which nobody uses). No content. From what you can see, it seems like everything that I had uploaded onto the Tripod server (a WHOOOLE lot of shit) had been deleted.
I panic for a few seconds, but manage to keep my head. I go to the Tripod site and log into the site-editing system. Or try to, anyway. I can’t log in. Again, I panic. After requesting a new password, I finally get into the file manager area. It’s empty. Nothing. None of the content I had uploaded.
AARGH! says I. AARGH and a half! Right about now, I’ve got a headache that threatens to pop my cranium like an overripe zit. I can’t deal with it, so I log off. A few hours later, I have the clarity of mind to E-mail all the other members and tell them that things are going screwy, but fortunately, our roleplay boards are still up, so I provide them a link to those.
I’m hoping that it’s merely a downed server or something, since I really don’t want to recreate the dozens of pages, re-upload the dozens of graphics, and re-write the dozens of HTML and Javascript codes.
Curses!! ::shakes fist::
