I bought a shirt on eBay last week. It arrived, was nice, and I consequently left positive feedback for the seller.
Today I received this email directly from the seller:
*Dear <It’s Not Rocket Surgery>,
THANKS for your positive feedback on the Southpole T-Shirt you BOUGHT from me!
We all love a BARGAIN and SPECIAL DEALS! So I wonder what you would think of me, if you found out one day I knew of Someone Who LOVES you and wants to GIVE you a FABULOUS FREE GIFT, that is out of this world…and I never passed on the GOOD NEWS to you?
Perhaps you are smiling, because you have received this LOVE gift and it is in SAFE STORAGE, where it cannot be lost or spoilt?
This most precious GIFT came from heaven, when God sent His Son to bring us PEACE with God and True Peace in our own hearts and minds.
God so loved us, that He gave this GIFT, because no one can possibly buy it. The price is too costly - a perfect life lived in the place of those like you and me who are far from perfect. Jesus took the rap for us with His death. By His death and blood, His resurrection from the dead, He truly sets us free from God’s judgment, and gives us the GIFT of Eternal Life, as God’s beloved children.
A GIFT only becomes ours when we accept it. Won’t you also accept this FREE GIFT from God? Accepting Jesus as the one who paid the price for all the wrongs we have done and the good intentions we never got around to. This is something no one else can do for you!
“Thanks be to God for His indescribable GIFT!”
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
The profit from my eBay sales is used to spread this GOOD NEWS of God’s LOVE GIFT, Jesus.
Let me know if spreading this GOOD NEWS is a priority with you as well, & I’ll send you a list of the Missions I support. You can choose whom you would like to designate the money you paid me to go to.*
Now, I am not too thrilled about this email. I am especially unhappy that this email was sent directly from the seller to my email - I thought eBay frowned on seller/buyer communication outside of their system. And I also don’t appreciate being witnessed just because I made an online purchase.
What should I do? Tell the seller to knock it off? Ask her to send the donation to the Church of Satan? Complain to eBay?
All of the above and all the ones in the thread too. Why not? Ok, maybe not the one about the donation to the church of satan. . .satan has a church? But introducing her to Der Trihs sounds fun.
I would send them an email saying that I’d never heard of this God person before, and that I wasn’t really certain that I wanted his dead son as a gift. In fact, I think its kind of cruel that a parent would kill their only son, and I have no desire to be in a relationship with such a person. I would also advise the emailer that you were forwarding the email onto the FBI as otherwise you’d be an accessory to murder, like the emailer apparently is. Ending with a comment that while I might be “all for” religious freedom, I have no desire to go to prison because of someone else’s cult leader’s actions.
I had never heard that, I had thought it was just sales outside of their system that they frowned on, since they would be out the fee. Something like a follow-up on shipping would be fine to email directly.
Anyhow, I would just delete it, but I think it’s perfectly reasonable to contact ebay if it really bothers you.
I very much enjoy the (widget) and would happily buy from you again. You carry many items that would be very useful to me in my (activity related to stuff they sell, make it up if you have to). That is, I would happily have bought from you again if you hadn’t decided to take advantage of our business transaction to attempt to convert me to your religion.
I do not appreciate this in the least and as a result I will not be conducting any further transactions with you. My money will be going to your competitors instead. Furthermore, I will be adding a note to the feedback I have already left, warning potential buyers that if they do business with you, you will try to foist your beliefs off on them. (Note: Can you still do this? You could back when I was a heavy ebay user…)
