I am so goddamn angry right now, Why is it that Americans have to have it their way or no way?? and if you don’t like their way then youre out!! American companies are boycotting canadian goods, refusing to ship to canadians, and abusing canadian property!! (never mind even the french). This is childish, immature, stupid and they are only breeding hatred toward themselves! Is it any wonder they aren’t tolerated in many places in the world??
Why, even our opposition is trying to get the prime minister to apologize, and people are creating pro-US rallys to try and appease the US, but I can’t imagine why!! WTF has the US ever done anything to further relations with canada or shown some compassion or extend the neighbourly gestures??? Has the US ever apologized for a goddamn thing??
Please help me to f**king understand what makes them right and canada or the world wrong!! I mean canada DOESNT NOT SUPPORT THE WAR, WE JUST CHOOSE TO DEAL WITH IT IN A DIFFERENT WAY. So that means that you must sever all ties and say IM NOT INVITING YOU TO MY BIRTHDAY PARTY? I’m friggin disgusted.
Wow, this forum is a great way to relieve stress.
Cite? (I’m not challenging the statement, but I hadn’t heard this one. I’m curious whether it is being done by serious companies or by some mom-and-pop outfit that happens to have a couple of Canadian customers.)
I agree that it’s pretty stupid, but then, most of the emotional reactions to the war have been pretty stupid.
If Americans were going to react in this fashion, I’m surprised it hasn’t got better press. The Canuck media loves this sort of thing. I share some of your frustrations with regard to might makes right and American self-absorption (particularly under Bush), but the PM and his cabinet have not been particularly responsible either. Why don’t you blame the Canadian media for widely reporting what were clearly private sentiments?
What about the way the Canadian hockey teams have abused such american teams as the Hurricane, Panthers, Penguins, Thrashers, Sabers, Rangers, Sharks, Predators, Coyotes, Kings, and Blackhawks?
Oh, that G&M article looks real serious all right. FWIW, I live a mile from the fourth-busiest border crossing, and there has been no change in truck traffic whatsoever, else the Niagara Gazette would be tearing its editorial hair out right now.
Boycotting “Canadian” bacon? A couple of e-Bay idiots and a vandal in North Dakota?
There are plenty of fools in the world and with 283 million people, the U.S. has its share, but it so far anti-Canadian feelings do not seem to have even risen to the level of idiocy as demonstrated by “freedom fries.”
Duke , yeah, that’s pretty much what I figured as well. I have to agree, if there were any sort of major anti-canadian things going on, we would have heard about it up here by now…
You’re probably seeing a response to treatment received from Canadians toward some of our youth hockey teams at the moment. Cross-the-border hockey tourneys have always been popular. My brothers used to do this for baseball, too, during the summer.
I haven’t heard of any boycotts though, just people not going.
How about this? Everytime a small minority of the 285 million people living in this country rise up it seems to be publicized as if the whole country is doing it. We have about 10,000 different religions, God knows how many races, and so many different cultures, shit happens all the time. Most of us have no idea what we buy from Canada and what we don’t, but as long as we get it we don’t care where its from, as long as its convenient. So, how about everyone from these other countries get off their high horses about how “everything has to be Americas way” crying fits and shut the fuck up.
Wow. I want to congratulate the OP for having the balls to post a rant about Canadian-American relations, something I can’t do because I know that Rick Mercer is still out there and would make my efforts look pathetic.
I’d also like to thank fishcrawford for its wonderful parody, something Mr. Mercer would have a hard time (and too much intelligence, tact, and common sense) to match.
And so we start another round of “Let’s pretend to care about what Canada thinks!” Okay, so I am kidding. But seriously, I haven’t heard of any of these boycotts. And I certainly haven’t met anyone walking around cursing those “damn Canadians.” I think the “strained” relationship between the U.S. and Canada is being exaggerated a little bit. As for why we have never tried to further relations with Canada, I was not aware we needed to. I mean what has Canada done except complain? I will say that I don’t agree with Bush’s my way or the highway approach to things, but ultimately the decision to go to war was America’s not Canada’s.
Well, don’t I feel stupid for freaking out and you are all so calm. Yes, I also realize that the few do not necessarily speak for the many.
Here is one example of what I was talking about on CBC (your equivalent of CNN if you wanted to know).
I guess I’m more angry about how some people are so set on their views, and if others don’t follow it, then they must be wrong. Can’t the US at least admit that Canada is their biggest trading partner? We both need eachother economically and as people, so why the angst? But Canada doesn’t exist to most of the US, so I guess we’ll just keep laying low in the sidelines.
