Where do birds go during thunderstorms? Do they have like an Avian Defense Agency that builds public storm shelters for them to hide in until the “all clear” signal sounds? Do they burrow underground? Or do they just tough it out in the tree branches with little raincoats and umbrella? And what about the hatchlings? What do Mama and Papa Bird do when there’s a tornado a-comin’ and they have to get the young’uns to safety?
If a tornado or hurricane is coming, mama bird and papa bird will probably flee. Many birds are killed by hurricanes, as we on the SE coast can attest. During a usual thunderstorm or other storm they probably hunker down in the brambles, the same as they do during the heat of the hot summer days. You can’t spot many birds during the hot summer days, but come eve they’ll all around. They come out of hiding.
